Recovering in S.C and A Taste of Utica Italian Bread, Round 2

A mini vacay visiting Mum and Dad in Pawley's Island, S.C.  It’s always beautiful here, even when it rains, which it’s NOT doing (more than I can say about Utica, NY!).  We had a wonderful dinner at Bistro 217 Friday night while Ted was walking the dogs in Utica. I know this because he called me to complain. I miss you guys! My Saturday morning mid range run was met with mixed feelings. Half of me was looking forward to see how my legs have recovered since the marathon last weekend and half of me just wanted to stay in [...]

All Day Workout Fun

Ted and I had no definite plans for the long weekend so we decided on a bike trip.  Monday aka Labor Day turned out to be beautiful.  It wasn’t outrageously hot and there was a slight breeze.  Both of us took advantage of our time off and the weather by enjoying (YES! “enjoying”) a speed workout at the track.  Ted did great with minimum soreness in his knee and I was thrilled with my paces.   So rare for us to enjoy running in circles around a track exerting our selves more than we’d like on a day off. The forecast [...]

Yasso’s Yes? or No? and Ratatouille Pasta

This week’s speed work was 800 repeats or some would call them Yasso 800’s.  The Yasso 800’s are for marathoners looking for a very specific time goal.  A lot of folk do the Yasso repeats then a lot of folk say they don’t work.  I incorporate them into my workout simply for variety. How to do the 800’s: First of all, the name "Yasso" is from Bart Yasso, a well known distance runner  who popularized the workout. This is how to do a Yasso 800 workout: Convert your marathon goal time in hours and minutes to minutes/seconds. Example: If your [...]

No Fireworks, Just Smooth Sailing

Getting started on our July 4th celebration there were no fireworks but smooth sailing or rather running and riding.  It was already 70 degrees when we got up late on this holiday.  We stayed up until 11:30 pm (quite the accomplishment for Ted and I) watching the DVD “Safe House” with Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds Does Denzel ever make a bad movie? I haven’t seen one if he has. When we finally got our lazy behinds out of bed, Shane and I went for a 5 mile run. We made a couple of water stops because Shane and his [...]

Happy Easter 2012

Happy Easter!  Our morning began early with a 6:15 am service….outside at 32 degrees It sounds cold but the sun was shining, the birds were chirping and it was the most enjoyable Easter service we have ever attended.  After church, it was Shane’s turn.  We stopped at Dunkin Donuts and went to the Canal Trail for a brisk walk, enjoying the quiet solitude of trees and water and overall calm. Then it was off to see the little ones. Alyssa was dressed for this special day. Look how she loves her Grandpa! Breakfast, some light cooking and off to celebrate [...]
