All Day Workout Fun

Ted and I had no definite plans for the long weekend so we decided on a bike trip.  Monday aka Labor Day turned out to be beautiful.  It wasn’t outrageously hot and there was a slight breeze.  Both of us took advantage of our time off and the weather by enjoying (YES! “enjoying”) a speed workout at the track.  Ted did great with minimum soreness in his knee and I was thrilled with my paces.   So rare for us to enjoy running in circles around a track exerting our selves more than we’d like on a day off. The forecast [...]

TD 5 Boro Bike Tour NYC

May 5th and 6th marked the weekend of a big event for Ted and I.  We would travel 4 1/2 hours to tour New York City on bikes with 32,000 other folk.  Proceeds from the event go to educational programs which promote safe cycling in New York. We arrived in New York at 2:30 pm and immediately left on foot to get to the expo where we would pick up our packets, bibs, and check out all other goodies.  It was a fun 2 mile walk through a city that is filled with interesting people, buildings, faces, places.  The expo [...]

Something to Think About

When the going gets tough and I need to redirect my thoughts, as I’m sure will be necessary on Monday from Hopkinton to Boston, I like to focus on future activities.  This is what’s in store for Ted and I after April 16th. May 6th is the Five Boro Bike Tour.  Ted and I won the lottery for America’s largest cycling event.  It’s a 40 mile, traffic free ride for 32,000 cyclists.  We start at Battery Park in New York City, go through Manhattan, Central Park, the Bronx, down the Queensboro Bridge and pass so many NYC icons on the [...]

Riding after Running

What a great morning “after” we had.  Both Ted and I ran the Syracuse ARC races, Ted the 5K placing 115 out of 220 men and I ran the Half marathon placing 25 out of 221 women.  We had a great time in Syracuse but the fun didn’t stop on Saturday.  Sunday, after watching Shane try to catch some ducks grazing in the golf course, we went on a 37 mile bike ride to Rome.  Our first stop:  Boulevard Diner in Oriskany for breakfast. The fresh fruit bowl. The tomato and feta Egg Beater omelet with home fries and dry [...]

Bike Fit and Slow Roasted Salmon with Leek Sauce

Bike Fit: Oh! THAT was the problem Ted and I made an appointment with Margaret Thompson, USA Cycling Licensed Level 1 Coach who has won 8 National Championships and 2 silver medals at UCI Master World Championships. She helped perfect our bike fits as well as discussed our goals for cycling. Ted – the triathlete and me-the runner. It was a successful session.  On Ted’s bike, there were just a couple of minor adjustments to his shoe clip angle as well as handle bars and a little tweaking of the saddle.  On my bike, there were more drastic adjustments such [...]

Myrtle Beach Cycling Event

Sunday, the day following the Myrtle Marathon and Half Marathon was the cycling event:  14, 33, or 63 mile rides to choose from.  Not a race, a RIDE (the announcer insisted). We found our way to Conway, about 45 minutes from Pawley’s Island.  The race began, on the nose, at 9 am.  Ted was on his bike with the other long milers while Shane and I followed along in the Denali.  We were to meet Ted at the SAG Aid Stations.  Due to some navigation problems on my part, we missed him at the first stop but intercepted before the [...]
