Little Nags and Shrimp Po’boy

Let’s talk running before we talk eating, although it does look good doesn’t it? If I look back at training logs leading into upcoming marathons, it’s right about this time that those little aches and pains coupled with that burned out/over done feeling sets in. It’s especially bad when going into marathon number 3 within a 4 month period. It would be unrealistic to expect anything different. With 9 days left before running Grandma’s Marathon, Duluth, MN, there are times I’m excited, there are times I feel totally burned out, times when things hurt, and times when I’m thinking about [...]

Running and Races and Broiled Cod with Fulton Fish Market Glaze

Sometimes the title for a blog post simply happens without much thought then there are those times that nothing sounds right.  Today’s post was one of those writes, re-writes, and re-write again. Nothing worked so I gave up and just went with what it was. No over thinking it…or did I?! This week has been a week of over thinking and under performing. It happens. We get over it. My mojo for running went out the window this week, hence “under performing”.  I took several days off and didn’t feel an ounce of regret.  Probably not the week to suffer [...]

Finger Lakes Wine Tour and Bouillabaisse for Two

First since I can't expect you to wait for such a wonderful meal, here is the recipe for Bouillabaisse.             Finger Lakes Wine Tour and Bouillabaisse for Two Recipe Type: dinner Cuisine: French Author: Joanne Chef Maria Felicia T. Seva offers an interesting Bouillabaisse recipe in the January 2015 issue of The National Culinary Review. Naturally I had to try it and put my own two cents into this dish for two on a, CAN YOU BELIEVE IT IN APRIL, snowy weekend. *Ok, so it’s not snow that is staying around long, at least in our [...]

Acclimate and Italian Salmon Rolls in Tomato Sauce

For the past few months I have been running in temperatures ranging from –5 F to high 20’s F.  In less than 2 weeks, I will go from those frigid temperatures to comforting 50’s possibly into the 80’s.   That sounds great right now as I look at the outside temperature gauge and it screams a whopping 15 degrees but WOW! If that won’t be a shock to my thermoregulation, can’t imagine what would?!  This is why expectations in the upcoming Phoenix Marathon are up in the air.  To be honest about this race, I’m conflicted.  Still feeling strong from New [...]

Get Tough When You Run and Baked Branzino with Herbs

Have you ever wondered how some runners/athletes can push themselves through the point of wanting desperately to stop?  This has always been my big question after finishing a race and not achieving a time goal.  Yes, we celebrate finishing and our ability to run the distance, but we look back and can’t help but ask “Why did I slow down/walk back there when I told myself I wouldn’t ?”  Another question:  “How do I get mentally tough to over come that urge to stop?”   The following quote by Sarah Bowen Shea “Run Like a Mother: How to Get Moving and [...]

School of Fish Tuna 101 with Sunflower Seeds, Lemon and Chives

After visiting several different weather sites in hopes of finding one, just ONE, that offered a ray of hope for a warmer tomorrow in upstate New York, I finally accept defeat. It’s not so much the 2 degrees, it’s the “Feels Like –16” that’s really getting to me.  Of course the treadmill will be turning and my legs will be flying along on that “hamster wheel” but not before Shane and Zoey have to go out for their morning constitution.  Oh the thought!  It’s going to keep me up all night. On a warmer note, let’s talk recipes! One of [...]
