School of Fish: Dover Sole with Marsala Sauce

Along with trying to keep fit in this frigid wintery weather, we have been eating healthy …again.  The holidays are over, the cookies gone, candy canes put away (although when I crave sweets, my go to candy is peppermint) and the focus is on fruits (fresh and dried-no sugar added)  to satisfy the sweet tooth.   To keep the heart pumping and metabolism burning, Ted’s taken to doing some vigorous cycling workouts using a DVD.  As for me, my running hasn’t been vigorous since the aching knee keeps my speed in check.  The goal, as I said before, is simply to [...]

Seafood Orzo Risotto

It’s tough leaving family when Christmas Day is over. Ted and I looked at the weather and it looked like a wintery mix for Sunday so we left South Carolina Friday, taking a couple of days to get home. I finished my long run on Friday, 16 miles which felt AMAZING considering I’ve had knee issues, We cleaned up, ate breakfast, kissed Mum and Dad goodbye then hit the road by 11:30 am. We made it to Warrenton, VA.  After spending the night in a not-so-elegant hotel, sleeping less than 5 hours due to nasty smells (which weren’t the dogs), [...]

School of Fish: Brown Rice Risotto with Crab, Pistachios and Orange

After running on the weekend, maybe some would rest and allow their legs and feet to relax.  Not in our house. We don’t have kids, only our two dogs, but we seem to always be on the go.  One favorite hobby to occupy my time is baking and creating in the kitchen.  So I get back from a run, put on some comfy shoes (or go barefoot if I haven’t run too many miles) and start creating.  Baking sweet treats for Ted and myself is fun, but we can only eat so many and when the freezer is full, I’ll [...]

Haddock Po` Boys

Two Feet: and finally what the weather guy REALLY meant this morning Lucky for us, we didn’t get that 2’ of snow and hopefully we won’t get it until after the holidays.   Some parts of New York DID get it or WILL get it before the end of the week.  I’m not ready to face the challenges that snow covered roads bring on foot or on wheels.  This morning, with thoughts of slippery sidewalks, I took the dogs on a 3 mile run. To my surprise and even though it was cold enough, there was very little ice.  It did [...]

School of Fish and After the NYC Marathon 2014

It wasn’t long once we were back in the hotel room after running the TCSNYCMarathon that I received a message from my nephew.  He and his girl friend were in the City and waiting to meet us.  Now trying to clean up quickly and refresh, getting ready to go out “on the town” walking mind you, after traversing 26.2 miles on hard pavement is somewhat of a task. We did it anyway since I love my nephew, Sam.  His girlfriend Megan is pretty darned special as well. We met at Hudson Place Restaurant.  Sam, Megan and Ted enjoyed fresh blue [...]
