Ted and I had no definite plans for the long weekend so we decided on a bike trip.

Monday aka Labor Day turned out to be beautiful.  It wasn’t outrageously hot and there was a slight breeze.  Both of us took advantage of our time off and the weather by enjoying (YES! “enjoying”) a speed workout at the track.  Ted did great with minimum soreness in his knee and I was thrilled with my paces.   So rare for us to enjoy running in circles around a track exerting our selves more than we’d like on a day off.

The forecast continued to look good into the afternoon so we hopped on the bikes and rode to Vernon Downs for harness racing. The track was having an early post time of 1:15 pm.  The trip was about 19 miles one way on our bikes.  We enjoyed the rolling hills of route 5 and arrived at Vernon in an hour and twenty minutes, 15 minutes before the first race.

We changed clothes and went upstairs to the “Miracle Mile” buffet.  Got great seats by the open window and nestled down for food and drink and racing.

This is how good we are at betting:  1.  We didn’t buy a program.  2. We picked the trifecta (we don’t even know if there was one) of the first race and our picks CAME IN! But, we didn’t put the bet in so only Ted and I knew we won and nothing to show for it.  3. We bet the next two races …but lost.

After some good food, wine and beer, we changed clothes again and mounted our rides.

After eating too much, those motorized “rides” looked a lot more appealing than our pedals and wheels.

A good run, a good ride, and pretty good food.  What a good Labor day.
