My own mortality

Life certainly gets more challenging as we add on the years.  No one warns us of the obstacles that we must overcome.  There is no guidebook.  I wish there was. In 2015 my mother passed away unexpectedly.  I thought she was going to be with us longer than my father but that apparently wasn't the Supreme plan.  I can't help but think how much easier caring for an aging parent would be if it were my mother who were with us instead of my father.   It seems women are more capable when alone than men as they age or [...]

Was it the computer or was it me?

There is not one iota of electronic technical intelligence existing in my brain. This is voluntary. Electronics don't interest me except that I enjoy being able to use them. When there is a problem such as not being able to turn on the television the joy of new technology quickly leaves my body. Just let me get out of my seat, press an "ON" button and turn a darned dial on the TV, opting for one of the 4 available stations instead of hundreds available for viewing nowadays. It's frustrating and confusing. So when our router/modem went south a week [...]

Back to Reality

Vacations end. Places that allow your body to relax and unwind have to be left behind. The fun things you see and do will have to wait until next time. The Race The workouts The critters The beautiful backyard sanctuary my father has created and tends to daily. We had a great time and it’s tough to leave but there are those we love and miss at home. Zoey was happy to be back home to terrorize Shane and get her weekday playmate back. What do you love most about vacations? What do you miss the most about being away?

Time In Myrtle for the Holidays

Once again, we brought the rain with us on our vacation to Myrtle Beach.  How do we get so “lucky”?!  We are making the best of it by spending time with Mum and Dad, planning the big day and by that I mean Dad’s birthday on Christmas Day.  So far we have had a great time in spite of the weather.  We had two mornings of enjoyable running and walking with the dogs.  Wednesday was a bit of a wash out but the down pour didn’t start until I was into my last two miles with Zoey and Ted was [...]

Day After Portland Marathon 2014

All body parts were ready, willing, and able, although moving slower than normal.  Walking was the best solution and was done immediately after washing up following our 26.2 mile run as well as early the following morning. After cleaning up from our excursion around Portland with 9000 other marathoners (actually not sure of the runner count but that was what we heard), we went to Buffalo Wild Wings for sandwiches, tacos, beer and wine.   Hungry and thirsty for something other than post run healthy snacks and water, the ambrosia of fattier choices and alcohol went down pretty well. We did [...]

Portland Oregon Day Before the Marathon

We just don’t sleep well in hotels.  It’s not because it was noisy, it wasn’t.  It’s just not home. After a restless night,  we finally decided to get out of bed and go for a very easy 3 mile run to loosen up the legs before race day.  Not as many cyclists out this morning but there were runners every which way.  Temperature was 50 degrees, sun shining, a morning made for runners. Runners group together for a morning stretch by the fountain. A little rock climbing in the park. Another great morning to enjoy in Portland. After a healthy, [...]
