This Chapter in My Life and Apple Pean-ola

On the radio the other day, the interviewer asked the guest “If you named your life right now as a chapter in a book, what would that chapter be called?” I looked at Ted as we drove along and said “Amazing”. He said “excuse me?”  I said, “I’d name the chapter of my life right now “Amazing”. A wonderful husband.  A loyal dog and running partner.  My 2nd marathon, The 115th Boston Marathon in 3:47 (who could have imagined?!?) The California Raisin Bread Contest winner. The popularity of my award winning mini loaf.   The benefits and fun of using and [...]

Click,Click, Click

As I ran along this morning, I listened to the constant click, click, click of my right ankle. It didn't hurt, just got a little annoying with all that clicking. The ankle pain from yesterday had disappeared.  I'm thinking it was caused by the running shoes I wore so I changed to my minimal Nike Flys. No pain! Yay! Now to get rid of the clicks?!!! Total miles: 18.25 I set out to do between 16-20 and considering I ran 7 yesterday, I was happy with the 18 today. Do you give yourself a range of miles or time to accomplish [...]

Grilled Fish Mexican Style

The weekly plan This week I’m cramming all exercise into 4 days. Bam – Bam –Bam and BAM! We’re going to do a little touring of the Hudson Valley region so all running and fitness fun is going to be pounded out before our mini vacation.  I’m sure to be good and ready for a break. Monday:  Speed work. 11.7 miles in the am.  Worked the legs, abs and rode the bike in the pm. Tuesday:  Working on about 15 more minutes of sleep, weights in the am with a 5.4 mile run.  Swimming in the pm. That was a [...]

I Don’t Wanna–Guest Post

Danae Matthews is a 20-something living in San Francisco. She writes for Women’s Health Base, an on-line health resource for women. While browsing the internet the other day I came across one of the truest depictions of my former weight loss outlook. Via imgur: How poignant! In high-school I had baby fat that precluded me from being able to indulge in all the popular trends: hipster jeans, thong strap above the band and a crop top, a la Ms. Spears. In college although I had slimmed out I still felt self-conscious next to the L.A. transplants that trolled around my [...]

Energized and Spinach Salad from VegNews

Why so much energy? I think it was being around all those runners last Saturday at the Falling Leaves Expo. Sunday gave me the opportunity to burn some of the running fever out of me, but it’s still holding on and I’m ready to go this week. My long run is usually done on Saturday and I’ll take Sunday off then my workout schedule begins Monday. With the 20 miler being on Sunday this week, my typical workout week has been modified. It looks exciting though and I’m feeling charged! Monday: Weights and walking in the AM (I just had [...]

Floor Re-Do, Fit To-Do, and Portabellas Sunnyside

Here we go again, getting ourselves in a mess. We’ve had to rip up the old Italian marble (can you hear me crying?!!! ) and we are putting in some new marble.  I loved our old floor but the grout was messed up, some tiles were broken, cracked and loose.  It was time to update the house.  Now we’re in a mess for a week. I can’t stand the house in an upset. SPEAKING of upset!  I came home from work to find Ted inhaling yet ANOTHER one of my favorite new protein shakes! He was just sitting there, outside, [...]
