Boston Marathon 2023

127th Boston Marathon. Monday April 17, 2023. The 10 year anniversary of the Boston bombing in 2013.  I had to come back for this last run from Hopkinton to Boston. This would be Boston #12 which includs the COVID virtual run of 2020.  I wasn't able to run last year, 2022, which broke my streak due to a piriformis issue.  That was tough because we came to the city anyway and I ran the 5K.  I loved being present with all the energy but come Monday when I stood at the top of Hereford and watched finishers run in, it [...]

Indianapolis Monumental Marathon 2019

In researching most likely BQ marathons for fall running, it seemed a lot of people achieved their goal on this Indianapolis course.  In addition, I had never been to Indiana and so to add to my list of state races, I opted in.  It seemed like the course had runners going past historic monuments and other interesting areas.  A lot of support by way of aide stations and crowds.  Names were on the bibs if you registered early enough and you know what a boost it can be to hear your name yelled out during a race!   Since I like [...]

Fit at fifty plus: A recipe for youth

Ok, here it is, I’m over fifty. Wow that was tough since I never think of myself over 20, well, maybe 30. As long as I don’t lean in to close to the mirror and let the wrinkles remind me or let the stiffness when leaning over to tie shoes act like a slap to the head, I'll go through my day like a 30 something.  I'll order my favorite coffee standing tall exuding confidence until the young barista gives me the senior discount without even asking.  Sure I saved some money but really, do I look THAT OLD! Age [...]

Mushroom Tart

Years ago, we hosted a holiday party and I made a wild mushroom tart.  It was filled with assorted wild mushrooms and it was delicious.  I love mushrooms.  As a vegetarian, they often make an appearance in many homemade dishes. Nutritional benefits of mushrooms high in antioxidants, selenium, vitamin D, folate. 8oz of grilled portabella mushrooms and 8oz of shiitake mushrooms provide 3 g of fiber to benefit the digestive system reducing risk of heart diseaase. Fiber, potassium and vitamin C for a healthy heart. The mushroom stem is a good source of beta-glucans and chitins (dietary fibers) which can [...]

Broken Wrist Recovery and Oven Baked Egg and Lentil Dinner

This wrist recovery is going slow at least for me. I have been running, completing 44 miles this past week.  Running outside gets painful after a few miles. My wrist tends to cramp up.  I usually walk fast with Luke for about a mile and a half then take Zoey for 3 to 5 miles.  When I get home, I hop on  the treadmill and finish my run with a brace on the wrist.  Big news this week:  new treadmill!  Awesome! T50XER by Matrix. Love it.  I’ve resolved to do speed work on the mill and only if the roads [...]
