Boston Marathon 2023

127th Boston Marathon. Monday April 17, 2023. The 10 year anniversary of the Boston bombing in 2013.  I had to come back for this last run from Hopkinton to Boston. This would be Boston #12 which includs the COVID virtual run of 2020.  I wasn't able to run last year, 2022, which broke my streak due to a piriformis issue.  That was tough because we came to the city anyway and I ran the 5K.  I loved being present with all the energy but come Monday when I stood at the top of Hereford and watched finishers run in, it [...]

ReFresh, ReNew, ReFuel

I’ll be honest. I’ve never enjoyed drinking milk.  The only time I have ever desired milk is when I’ve been sick and wanted warm milk and honey before going to bed. Cold milk? Not me!  A year or so ago, I started reading about athletes getting into chocolate milk as the perfect drink for recovery after a tough workout.  In fact, I heard about chocolate milk being healthy, nutritious, etc., etc., etc. a few years ago.  It has taken me THAT long to give it a try.  I picked up a small bottle of Fat Free Nesquik Chocolate milk.  Since [...]

Honey, You’re In the News

The rain began falling around 7:45 am but I beat it.  It was a warm 62 degrees, my legs started out heavy but then kicked in more quickly than usual.  The hills seemed challenging  but when I looked at my time, they didn’t really make a difference to my pace. I ran alone. Shane was with Ted enjoying a day off.  It seems I run faster without Shane so on those days when pace control is important, it might be best to get Shane out the door and running along. I love his company anyway.  I did have stomach issues [...]

Equal Miles, Shorter Distance and A Nutrition Packed Shake

Does it seem that some routes you take while running seem shorter than other routes even though they are the same distance? The other morning, Shane and I ran a few miles out, turned around and ran the same route back. It wasn't too far from home, basically half a horse shoe from our house. If I completed the same distance but ran zig-zag around the college, up one road, down another then came back in a straight line, it would seem longer. Do you think it's a comfort zone thing? Being closer to home seems that we don't go [...]
