ReFresh, ReNew, ReFuel

by Joanne on August 17, 2012

I’ll be honest. I’ve never enjoyed drinking milk.  The only time I have ever desired milk is when I’ve been sick and wanted warm milk and honey before going to bed. Cold milk? Not me!

A year or so ago, I started reading about athletes getting into chocolate milk as the perfect drink for recovery after a tough workout.  In fact, I heard about chocolate milk being healthy, nutritious, etc., etc., etc. a few years ago.  It has taken me THAT long to give it a try.  I picked up a small bottle of Fat Free Nesquik Chocolate milk.

Since that day, I’ve CRAVED this post workout fuel when I get home from a run.

I’ve also recently joined the GotChocolateMilk community to promote the benefits of enjoying this nutritious beverage.

CARBS to refuel muscles

PROTEIN to help build muscle

ELECTROLYTES to replenish what’s lost in sweat

FLUIDS to help rehydrate the body

Lowfat chocolate milk is simple and effective in helping to refuel the body so you, as an athlete, can perform your best. It’s a natural source of quality protein to build lean muscle; it offers the right mix of protein and carbohydrates to help exhausted muscles recover; plus fluids and a natural source of electrolytes to rehydrate and help replenish what you lost in sweat. There are many different brands of ready to drink chocolate milk out there so here is a brand comparison I found which was conducted about a year ago.  Go to Community Stretcher for the results. (Click on photo for source).

It’s become such a popular recovery drink. In every event Ted and I have done this year, chocolate milk has been offered at the end. I’m getting SO addicted 🙂

Oh man I LOVE CHOCOLATE MILK. But I don’t drink it anymore because I’m lactose intolerant but I still love it and occasionally still have it after a 30+ mile bike ride because it is a good recovery drink.
