Garden Casserole

The body does not want you to do this. As you run, it tells you to stop but the mind must be strong.  You always go too far for your body.  You must handle the pain with strategy…It is not age; it is not diet.  It is the will to succeed.  - Jacqueline Gareau, 1980 Boston Marathon Champ. My body didn’t want to run today even though my mind kept telling it there was only a few miles to go.  The mental urging won over the lazy legs. “It’s a total rest day tomorrow. No running tomorrow. Day off tomorrow” [...]

The Canal Classic Bike Ride

Last week, I received a notice about a Sunday morning bike ride called the Canal Classic,  a pre-race ride for all cycling racers.  I posted a message to the MVBC group asking if “C” riders could do the ride.  The response was impressive.  Most everyone said “You should do the ride. There are a few challenging hills, but it’s a great ride and CHUCK is buying all the ladies ice cream”.  Sounded good to me, the ice cream that is. Here is the link on mapmyride.  Don’t under estimate a 6% incline. HOLY MOLY those hills are endless.  Before I [...]

Lemon Luscious Cake

Will bike for food!  That is my motto. I will ride the bike on Sunday morning as long as we can stop for breakfast.  I will ride the bike on Thursday night as long as we can go out to dinner.  At least I go!  Last nights ride was fun. It actually started WAY too slow (different leader).   A little before the half way point, the pace picked up a bit.  The gravel road was more packed this week, not as scary.  There was  a bug that flew into my helmet. That freaked me out and I had to stop, [...]

Don’t Burn the Tuna Burgers

Back track to Thursday: Thursday morning’s run was exhausting for Shane.  It wasn’t a long run, we did an easy 5.7 but the temperature was a humid 73 F.  Both Shane and I are cold weather runners.  Before the run, back and triceps were worked using the cables and dumbbells.  Shane slept through the weight workout, lucky dog! Thursday night, BIKE NIGHT: We had a group ride, 27.75 miles then group PIZZA PARTY!    YAY PIZZA!  And beer!    What fun!  The eating pizza that is, as for the bike ride, long…. hot….windy….hilly.  I’m still trying to appreciate the grueling effort [...]

No Where to be Found

In the paper today were the results of the Nate Title Town 5K Race.  They only listed the top men and women finishers. I STILL don’t know my finishing time.  The end result of this race  could be treated like one of those movies where the ending could go however you want it to:  She achieves a PR or She falls short of even beating her last finishing time. Stay tuned. There could be a sequel. This morning the three of us did the Valley View Golf Course walk for 4.35 miles.  It was still wet although not falling from [...]

Just can’t stop

Ever feel like you haven’t stopped running from one thing to another?  Since we have been back from vacation, it seems like it’s been one thing after another.  I have more cakes to think about this weekend, there is a long run in my schedule for tomorrow morning, there is a 10K race in Clinton that I’d like to do in the afternoon, and we have a breakfast and bike ride with friends on Sunday.  Not all that is going to happen, but I’ll keep you posted. Thursday night was BIKE NIGHT!  It was an interesting ride, our longest yet [...]
