Taper Weeks and Omelet with Soup

The last of the longer runs was Thursday morning, 18. 2 miles.  Shane was with me for 11 miles.  It was one of his longest runs yet and he STILL wanted to play Frisbee when we got home.  But there was no time to play because I was out the door again with Ted.  Ted won’t run as far as Shane, course Ted isn’t attached to my waist so he has a choice (poor Shane doesn’t).    I told Ted that around 4:30, I saw two people walking down the Parkway – way too early for strolling along.  He said [...]

A Birthday Breakfast and What IS that ingredient?

Yes, another birthday came and went.  Ah!  I feel so good because when I looked in the mirror there wasn’t any wrinkle, any imperfection, any sign of another year gone by that wasn’t there the day before.  Phew! Made it!  I bet I won’t fair so well the day I run Boston.  Probably see someone age 20 years in 3.45 hours ( yes – my goal time). But that’s weeks away yet so moving on… My Birthday Breakfast The day began kind of funny. I got up with the alarm and went through the routine of getting myself into the [...]

CNYEats A Taste of Utica Hot Peppers and Eggs Sandwich

This recipe is a favorite of every tried and true Utican.  You know… Utica has some of the best, easiest recipes.  On page 48 of our book, you will find this recipe posted by Mario. John Cardamone offers  … “I finally tried your peppers and egg recipe, using your alternate cubanelle peppers, since my Dad (Bob) doesn’t like hot stuff/spicy food any more.  AWESOME!!! I’ll have to pick up a hot pepper next week just for me.  :-) “ Apple Crumbles made the same substitution as John did  - cubanelles.  However, we did pick up some long hots and cooked [...]

That’s a Wrap

Exercise in review: How’s your running, cross training, walking, biking, swimming going?  I left out skiing although the weather this past week certainly leaves that as an option in many places.  As for me, all running goals have been met except for the 60 minute run Saturday. I’m looking forward to that one even though the weather is suppose to be back into the teens. Oh Thank You NY Weather!!!      Shane will be ready to get back on his running “paws” and hit the road.  Yay Shane!  Not sure where we’ll be running.  If it isn’t too muddy, we [...]

The Chronicle of The Omelette

“For the appetizing use of leftovers there is nothing to equal it.  For economy in extending small luxuries to their utmost it has no peer.  Question soft nutrition and balanced diet are answered by the infinite variety of fillings which may be enfolded within its warm embrace.  Serve omelettes for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.  No dish so lends itself to the inventiveness of the cook – and with less risk.”   A beautiful paragraph copied from “The Omelette Book” by Narcissa Chamberlain, 1958.  We arrived home from our vacation to find a dozen fresh eggs in our fridge.  It was impossible [...]

Eggs Benedict for Dinner

Brown vs. White Eggs. Ever wonder if there is any difference? Here is the scoop from ModernBaking:  Is there a difference in the eggs beyond shell color?  A: Beyond the color, there is no difference. White and brown eggs are nutritionally identical. The color of chicken eggs is determined by materials that are deposited while the eggs develop inside the hen's oviduct. Some chickens deposit white pigments, while others deposit brown pigments. Some chicken breeds, such as the Aracauna and Americauna, lay blue to green eggs, just to add to the color spectrum. We ate a lot of good foods [...]
