2016 Race Schedule

Another year, more challenges. Let's hope health issues are behind us and the only worries are race times. Although, why worry about race time?  It's all about being grateful that we can get outside everyday and enjoy daily exercise. "The chance to know yourself in weakness and strength, and to persevere.  ... to confront your own lions, and be your own hero." What's on tap for this year?  So far, this is what I have scheduled. March 5, 2016:  Myrtle Beach Marathon.   This is my 12th state and 21 marathon since 2010.  Wow! These legs have seen some miles!   Recap [...]

Good and Bad

This week has had the really good moments and the really bad ones. I received the gold Phiddipedes Award for endurance               I received confirmation of the 26.2 trademark for baked goods                 This is the 26.6 Mini Loaf that began trademarking the 26.2 Apple Crumbles baked goodies. Cookies, muffins, and bars are under development to help get us all through the long run.                             I saw a shooting star Wednesday morning. The best [...]

Change a Flat Tire

Bicycle Repair: How To Change a Flat Tire Garmin Edge 800 Cycling Computer This article came to my email from TriVillage.com. They must know that I won't venture out on my bike without Ted. I've had so many flat tires with no clue how to change the thing.  If it wasn't for Ted, I'd still be out there roaming the streets, walking my bike home.  So read on friends and if you have anything to add, please comment. Changing the Tire on your Bike: Regardless of whether you are a mountain biker or road cyclist, chances are good that if you [...]

Millet Casserole with Fresh Tuna Morsels

Catching up:  Running is going well. Marathons are fast approaching.  Boston 2014 sign up is September 11 for me.  Hope I can get in. Hope it’s still open?!!! I’m tapering down this week and next in preparation for Rochester Marathon on September 22nd.  This training season hasn’t been bad at all. No stress. Not too many aches and pains. No really long mileage weeks.  I think I had one week at 63 but the rest were low 50’s. Most eventful run: A month or so ago when Shane and I were racking up miles in the thunder and lightening, tree [...]

Cranberry Cinnamon Goat Cheese with Bacon Slices

In just a couple of days it will be time to run another 15K, The Utica Boilermaker Road Race.  It can be fun or it can be tough depending on the goal.  It’s not a flat course but the hills aren’t overly aggressive either.  The crowd support is maxed out. You won’t see a more motivating crowd than what you witness while running from East Utica all the way to Varick Street by Saranac Brewery.   And lets not forget that HUGE post race party with music, food, beer, and celebration.  What are my expectations?  I try not to expect anything [...]

Oh Look! A Rainbow!

Just what I needed Can I vent?  Seriously. Will you allow me just a moment to spew all sorts of negatives then I promise, I COMPLETELY PROMISE, I will tell you something positive. Negative:  The Week from Hell … I wrote all the nasty stuff that happened this week then I thought twice. Who wants to read that? We read depressing stuff in the news ALL     THE    TIME, why read it here. So I’ll just mention the positives which may not be meaningful since they don’t have the negatives to connect: Positive:  There was a rainbow The kitchen is usable. [...]
