The Herd and Banana-Nut Goat Cheese Muffins

There must be an advertisement written in “deer tongue” somewhere close by: “Calling all deer!  Come to our yard! It’s the perfect vacation spot for the entire family herd. Graze peacefully under the trees. Bask in the sun while watching the little ones play. Take a dip in the creek then have mom clean you off,  creek side. Come and go as you please because the dogs only watch No barking, a quiet haven. So come to our home, all you deer.  Why bother taking a hike up to the Adirondacks where there might be more food, more water, more [...]

Swedish Rye Bread (Ragbrod)

This recipe is for this month's baking with My Kitchen My World when the group visits Sweden. So many good foods in Sweden! I'm on a bread kick and Rye just happens to be one of may favorite so while surfing through various options, I came across a recipe from Food By Country and couldn't wait to taste this delicious recipe. The following recipe is my own version and will make 2 small 4 x 8 loaves. 1/2 cup milk 1/2 cup water 1 3/4 TBS coconut oil 1/4 cup unsulfured molasses 1/4 cup granulated sugar 1/2 tsp salt 1/4 [...]

Ancient Great Grains

An AMAZING package was delivered by UPS.  Mysterious looking isn’t it?  Open it up and it’s from BOB!  Bob’s Red Mill.  Grains of DISCOVERY. I love cooking with grains.  I especially enjoy experimenting with recipes using Gluten Free grains but since wheat gluten doesn’t seem to bother Ted or myself, I’ll try all healthy, nutrient dense grains.  The sample pack received included: *Information from “Bob’s Red Mill Grains of Discovery” booklet accompanying this sample package. Sorghum:  hearty, high fiber and chewy in texture and perfect for pilafs and cold salads. You can even pop it like popcorn for a special [...]

Running Mistake and Picnic Pasta with Pine Nuts

My running speed sessions typically fall on a Tuesday and early in the morning as all my training runs typically do.  If you keep up with good training habits, you know that eating just a little something about 30 to 60 minutes before heading out is a healthy habit.  This is especially important if running for over an hour, in hot weather, AND doing a hard workout. Tuesday morning’s tempo run was ASTRONOMICALLY tough. Why? I ran for 65 minutes on 1/2 a cup of water and it was hot with high humidity. Bad, bad, bad. Talking more about Pre [...]

Positive Affirmations and Buckeyes

I just put my training plan together for the fall marathons beginning on September 22nd and ending with Syracuse on October 20th.  With this long 19 week session comes the need for a little motivation.  I started with Positive Affirmations sent daily at 7:30 am to my iPhone. Example:  ”Whether you decide you can or you can’t, you’re right” The other boost added to my daily reminder of “feel good” media was a desk top message. Do you use positive messages to overcome doubts and fears? Speaking of marathons, after the Flying Pig in Ohio I figured I’d celebrate my [...]

Why Do It and Monster Cookie Cake

In Myrtle Beach.  I’ll spend time with my parents as well as run the Diva Myrtle Beach Half Marathon with sorority sisters.  It’s a weekend to get excited.  Status of the foot:  It’s achy when I rest but feels fine when I’m walking. Classic plantar fasciitis? My dad asked “Do you take care of your feet?”  My answer “Well…not really”  His eyes flew open wide in disbelief.  Guess I’ve always taken my feet for granted. I would rather go barefoot than wear shoes even if walking on hot, stony pavement.  I’ve never ritualistically rubbed cream to soften my feet.  I’ve [...]
