Stormy Stops and Fall Flavor Muffins

Everyone is in a panic due to the storm.  Some refer to the wicked weather system as “Frankenstorm”.  How appropriate considering it’s hitting the Northeast during Halloween.  We don’t anticipate too much damage around our home but who knows? There could be a tree that up roots or a creek that over flows.  If we have to vacate, I only hope where we end up welcomes dogs.   My biggest issue with this storm at the moment is that it’s going to put the nix on my outdoor running.  If we lose power, the treadmill will be a no-go as [...]

Scared, Hot and Running plus Coconut Milk Cocoa Muffins

Being flexible with ones training schedule is one thing but when you get up knowing you could do the workout THEN skip it anyway, there is a sense of guilt that stays with you all day.  What to do?   Train after work.  This week is a pretty easy week since I’m running a half marathon on Sunday in Watkins Glen and taking a mini taper.  I’m not doing weights this week, just runs.  So on Tuesday was a warm up, tempo run for about 5 miles then a cool down. I got up then went back to bed THEN proceeded [...]

Summer Sizzler 5 Miler and CNYEats A Taste of Utica Blueberry Muffins

These guys are keeping me entertained. Everyday they do something that gets me giggling. Look what they bought Ted for Father’s Day: Shane sent his “pennies” my way and I helped him order a 6 bottle bucket of international beer plus nuts, crackers and sausage.  A MAN’S bucket of goodies.  Love Shane and Zoey. SUMMER SIZZZZZZZLER 2012.  5 Mile Race at SUNY IT.  Results from last year here. Before I tell you about the best blueberry muffins in upstate New York, let me share my 2012 Summer Sizzler experience.  I wasn’t looking forward to this race   A T    A L [...]

Caught Ya! and New York State Apple Muffin

Have you ever been caught working out in clothes far from workout duds or in odd places… like the tub ? Ted got me twice:   1. I was downstairs in the gym (where one should be to workout) but it was later at night, boredom had hit as had curiosity about the Kenpo X DVD from the P90X program. I was ready for bed and only wearing a yellow tank top nighty,  not much else…if you know what I mean . After watching a bit of the Kenpo DVD, I decided to put my pink sneakers on, give it a [...]

Comforting Noise and Applebutter Mini Bundt Cakes

Early in the morning, the train passes through the Utica station.  The whistle blows.  The noise is muted and sounds like a haunted call in the distance.  Somehow this apparitional alert comforts me.  Whether laying in bed or outside in the morning darkness running, it has a calming affect.  I can’t say why, maybe a childhood memory deep in the dusty corners of my mind?  Maybe a voice telling me I’m not alone?   Thursday morning, after tempo runs and intervals on the treadmill, Shane and I went for a 3 mile cool down run.  The train sounded in the distance.  [...]

First Flat and Banana Muffins

Today’s workout: chest and arms then onto a 7.53 mile run with Shane. Great morning for a run.  It was 62 degrees. The view on Saturday morning:   My favorite part of the switchbacks, located in Valley View gold course It was dark and foggy Saturday morning, but when the sun is shining, this above picture offers the light at the end of the tunnel.  The switchbacks are shaded by trees.  It’s a trail run.  To get to the point pictured above, you have to run up hill.  It’s not super steep but enough to get you looking forward to seeing [...]
