Union Square: Tangy Artichoke Cauliflower Ragout

T G I F!   I know, I know… don’t wish your life away but Friday’s are just so darned fun!  It seems in our work place, which, I have to say is stress free, healthy, fun, we all STILL count down ‘til Friday.  What happens on Friday to make it such a great day?  Hmmm…not sure but I think it has to do with the fact that Saturday morning follows which is the day the alarm does not go off.  That’s not to say we don’t wake up at the same early hour, it’s just not triggered by an alarm. [...]

Back Cracking and Meatless Spring Rolls with Carrot-Ginger Sauce

With so much running my body seems to have taken on some issues.  Nothing that can’t be fixed. Nothing serious.  Issues that with smart running-recovery, heat and ice can be fixed in no time.  After the last race, it was time to run easy, no plan, just enjoy the warmer weather with the dogs.  Unfortunately a little hip and shoulder pain has taken some of the fun out of my down time.  I decided to speed recovery up a bit and see a Chiropractor.  The first visit resulted in two painful back cracks adjustments and the recommendation to heat my [...]

Aggressive Goals and Pesto Frittata

When you get out of bed every day, you have a goal.  Some people are happy with very simple goals which can be completed by the end of each day and don’t challenge them physically or mentally.  There are others who need to have a goal that challenges their capabilities.  Which ever type of goal setter you happen to be, as long as your achievements are met with a feeling of self fulfillment, you’re setting healthy goals.  If you set goals which are too aggressive and unattainable, you won’t be happy. You will be met with defeat and eventually give [...]

At Tempo and Chickpea and Red Chard Soup

As told yesterday, I’m taking this week as sort of a recovery week from running.  The Boston Marathon is only 7 weeks away.  I’d probably be impossible to live with if I attempted a complete week off from running due to that feeling every runner knows….”I have to keep running. Gotta keep training.  Can’t stop now. That ache/pain isn’t THAT bad….”  That’s not to say this week is easy.  I’m just taking every other day off and Tuesday was a tough run. I don’t like tempo runs.  For anyone asking “what’s a tempo run?”, it’s a run done at a [...]

Meatless Any Day of the Week

Before I tell you about the best EVER meatless recipe, I have to tell you how great this summer has been for running. The weather has been pretty darned perfect. Sure it’s been hot but my body has adjusted.  There has been no excuse to run on the treadmill.  Speed work, one day a week, has been bearable.  The long runs haven’t been so awful (maybe because I’ve been running those long miles so slow).  My mid range run has been the most enjoyable run of all.  I’ve approached races with an easy mind and minimal anxiety.  It’s been good. [...]
