Everything Looks Good the Night Before and Stewed Rhubarb with Honey

When I look at my planned workout for the next morning, and it’s something challenging or a little different, I get excited and look forward to it.  The thought doesn’t occur how tough it might be.  EVERYTHING seems possible the night before, right?! Thursday was a day for interval training, something different as I progress from base marathon phase to pre-marathon phase workouts. The workout was to be 6 to 8 times 2 minute intervals with 1 minute recovery.  I thought “I can do 8, but I’ll go easy and settle on 7 x 2 minutes at about a 5K [...]

I’m not so stealth and Breakfast Bars

I like to run.  I joined Utica Road Runners a few years ago but, being a bit introverted, never pursued volunteering and never attended club social functions.  Just call me shy.  I finally bucked up some courage a few years ago, 2010 to be exact, and began talking to Road Runners.  They were pretty darned friendly.  In fact, it was one such RR that directed me to my first marathon, Wine Glass in 2010.  Thanks Jim! I’m still a bit stand-offish, but I have been participating more in events and of course it helped to know someone like my first [...]

CRASH

Computer's mother board died yesterday. We took her to the GEEK Squad hospital but they said she was too old to save. I hope no one ever says that about me. Taste of Utica will be posted ASAP. In the meantime, the Wordpress app on my phone will suffice. Gorgeous day for a bike ride! Ted and I rode to Creekside for some good morning eats. It was a fluffy, tasty egg white veggie giambrotte for me, then back on the bike for a sunny, warm ride home. Did you have a picture perfect Sunday?

What Happened and My First Green Smoothie

My first half marathon of the year didn’t happen.  I was going to be tough. I would run through that predicted 25 mph wind.  In fact, Shane and I went out for a 2 mile test run before leaving the house for Onondaga Lake Park, 1 hour 15 minutes away.  I was ready with my temporary tattoo I was dressed, had my running fuel, my ice bugs just in case there was a lot of snow.  About 20 minutes after leaving the house, I realized my Garmin had been left behind.  Was that a sign? I’ve NEVER run without my [...]

Unmatched and Panettone Fruited French Toast

The back roads were covered in snow and the challenge of running through car tire tracks resulting in uneven, packed, sometimes slushy snow got the better of me.  The Parkway wasn’t safe since the side walks weren’t cleared.  Shane and I were out early trying to cover as many of the 15 scheduled miles as we could.  We eked out 9 miles, and by mile 8 my legs were calling it quits.  We got home, Shane was packed with icy sludge on his belly.  He was cleaned up, my clothes were traded from long winter leggings to shorts, we went [...]

That Pain in the Butt and Post Run Breakfast

Today was my 13 mile run.  It began at a nice easy pace since I was going to tackle some hills in the planned route.  Just over 5 miles and I turned up Mallory Road.  Mallory is fun to ride down on your bike since it offers quite a nice decline.  Of course that also means, taken in the different direction, it offers quite a challenging incline.  I took the “tough guy” route and decided to run up Mallory.  It wasn’t a run.  I had to walk parts and tried doing some speed plays to make up the slow pace.  [...]
