Conquer Yourself and Bob’s Red Mill Muesli

“Yet those persons are happy and poets sing of them who conquer with hand and swift foot and strength”  Pindar, Greek Poet 500 BCE, as quoted in RRCA magazine, an article reprinted with permission by Mitchell Garner, RRCA V.P. During my 18 mile run on Sunday, I thought what a tough time I was having and cursed myself for walking while Ted ran on ahead.  Me, the seasoned marathoner walking while Ted forged ahead strong on his longest run to date.  My body didn’t have a lot to give after a 9 mile run on Saturday and I began thinking [...]

Taste Science and Baked Oatmeal

In The National Culinary Review for November/December, Laura Taxel discusses the Science of Taste.  Here are a few snippets I thought were interesting. What do you think? Interesting?   or boring? -We typically eat and drink items in combination which can effect perception.  We become temporarily less sensitive to a dominant compound as we consume it which is why a pleasant tasting dry wine suddenly becomes sour after a few bites of a sugary dessert or a vinaigrette dressing on our salad inhibits our ability to detect tart notes in a wine making it seem flat. -There are four common [...]

The farthest thing from their mind is supporting a marathon.  But on the flip side, the marathon brings in millions [...]

BOO! Pumpkin Spice Protein Shake

Did anyone dress up and party this past weekend?  We did. We ALL did. and finally…”PLLEEEAASE take this thing off of me!” Zoey:  “Hey guys. What are we doing?!” “Not real sure I like this” “I’ll try to escape…COME ON SHANE! We’re outta here!” and Zoey…”Ok. ENOUGH pictures. I’m sticking out my tongue:  NA NA!” The adults played as well:  Dr. D'Capitate and Nurse Honey. That nurses costume was pretty thin so I wore some red and white underneath. We went to the Turning Stone where Ted assured me there would by a lot of folk in costume. We got [...]

Recovery and Rudi’s Gluten Free Tortillas are a hit

It’s odd how you can feel great after running 26.2 miles faster than you have ever done before and even the day after, you’re a little sore but still proud of yourself for not hobbling around, limping, moaning, you might even consider going for a run.  It’s even odder, more odd? that the day after that your body feels as if you’ve been rolled and kicked.  Your stomach is crying out for more food but at the same time being picky about what it receives. On this day, you’re pretty darned glad you don’t have to run. Yes, recovery is [...]
