Delta Lake Triathlon 2011

What a day. A PR for Ted. A great race on a gorgeous Central New York day.

The Delta Lake Triathlon of 2010 triggered Ted’s interest in the sport.

We were on the road by 6 am and arrived at the park by 6:45 am to set up.

There were over 300 athletes in this event. The 2nd running of the Delta Lake Triathlon.

The beautiful weather and the success of 2010 enticed seasoned as well as the newbie triathlete to race this year.

The Intermediate distance men took off at 8 am in white caps.

Followed by the intermediate women in red. Then the Sprint men in orange caps (there goes Ted!)

Finally the Sprint women in blue

The water was 76 degrees so it was athletes choice whether to wear wet suit or not. Ted prepared for the swim by training without but decided he would use the buoyancy of the suit to help his swim.

Swim time: approx. 24 minutes.

Transition: 3.54 minutes (it was a long way from water to bike and running barefoot is not everyone’s forte)

He’s off! … and he’s BACK in approx. 34 minutes.

Transition time: 2:15 approx.

The run.

The runners for the sprint took off through the woods and did one and a half loops for a 5K run.

Ted felt good and I caught up with him and was able to run and chat along his run. That was fun!

A little confusion entering into the final loop as he confirmed he had to keep going instead of making his way under the FINISH sign. He was at the 20 minute mark into his run at this point.

Finally nearing the end in approx. 27 minutes.

YAY! It was a PR!

1:31:26 AND….

TED WON 2nd PLACE IN HIS AGE GROUP!

We are SO proud!

Nancy and Bob were also on the grounds throughout the entire event cheering Ted on. Ever faithful friends.

We celebrated our Triathletes success with a bountiful brunch at Lake Delta Inn. Delish!

Additional congrats go out to JENN and JOLENE for their FIRST Triathlon. It was such a fun day. We had a lot of people to cheer for and congratulate on a job well done!
