Back Where it Began and New England Country Soup

On Monday, April 16th, at 10AM I will be standing at the starting line in Hopkinton, waiting for the whistle to blow, the canon to fire, the gun to go off... I'll be back in Wave 3, Corral 1 of the 116th Boston Marathon. Sure I wish I was in Wave 1, Corral 1 but maybe that would be too much pressure...you think?! Partly discouraged because I'm in the last wave, partly relieved because I'm in corral 1, I'm grateful I'll even be there again. The benefit to being in the first corral is less of a crowd to fight [...]

FOFF Turn it Up Tortilla Soup

A joke to share (from my dad):  HYMN # 365 A minister was completing a temperance sermon. With great emphasis he said, 'If I had all the beer in the world, I'd take it and pour it into the river.' With even greater emphasis he said, 'And if I had All the wine in the world, I'd take it and pour it into the river.' And then finally, shaking his fist in the air, he Said, 'And if I had all the whiskey in the world, I'd take it and pour it into the river.' Sermon complete, he sat down... [...]

The Dancing Runner and Sweet Potato Soup with Sliced Mushroom

A pretty good week in the Boston Training plan considering the weather has been awful for running outside.   I’m on track for 55 miles by Saturday with only one speed work left.  It’s going to be bitterly cold which is why I left that workout for the treadmill in the warmth of our basement.  50.5 miles and 4.5  to go. My mental effort has been negative in training for Boston as compared to the WineGlass.  I really love running so these feelings of dread when I have a long run on schedule are new in this plan. It could be [...]

CEimB Mushroom Barley Soup

This week’s recipe from Craving Ellie is Beef and Mushroom Barley Soup.  Ted’s version has the beef and my version is simply Mushroom Barley Soup.  Both versions worked to warm us up on a cold winter night. Picked by Jennifer of The Rookie Baker.  Make sure to visit her site because she’s no “rookie”. There’s some awesome looking treats going on over there! Back to the soup…. I wasn’t crazy about the “beef” part of the soup but the recipe was something I hadn’t made before and different is always fun to try.  Ted was looking forward to having a [...]

CEimB Tortellini Spinach Soup

Oh how I miss the warm days of summer… However, if it were hot outside, we probably wouldn’t be cooking soup! This week Bri of Yoshimi vs Motherhood picked our Ellie recipe. It was the perfect meal for a rainy, cold night in New York. Quick, easy, filling and delish!  Visit Bri’s blog for the “real”recipe because, as you know, I tweaked it a bit. 1 TBS olive oil 1 medium yellow onion, chopped 2 tsp minced garlic 1 carrot, peeled and chopped small 2 ribs of celery, chopped 8 oz sliced mushrooms 1 tsp dried oregano 1 tsp dried [...]
