FOFF Baked Crab Dip

This delicious hot dip isn’t dripping with grease and it doesn’t envelope you in guilty pleasure.  It DOES make your mouth water and, like potato chips, leaving you wanting more and more. This week’s recipe from Carla Vavala’s book Fusion of Food and Friends, found on page 17 reminds me of that OH SO TASTY spinach artichoke dip I used to have so often in chain restaurants while watching football games at the bar.  Yes, I confess, once a bar rat, I used to indulge in the fatty and delicious, not so nutritionally packed appetizers.  But they were good and so [...]

FOFF Bread Bowl Cheese Fondue and Irish Stout Stew

This weeks Fusion of Food and Friends  by Carla Vavala is a cheese fondue in a bread bowl.   PLUS…Peggy made the  “Irish “Good Craic” Stout Stew”, found on page 26 of Carla’s book and contributed by Alfie Falcitelli.  EXCITING! The Bread Bowl: A great party recipe so get your fondue forks ready. I picked up a delicious looking round loaf from the bakery, not taking notice that it wasn’t Italian bread but a Portuguese style round bread. It was so soft and so good, but probably too much so for this recipe.  It proved difficult to cut clean due to [...]

FOFF Mucho Loco Taco Dip

This weeks Fusion of Food and Friends (aka FOFF) recipe is found on page 12 of Carla Vavala’s book The recipe is by Mark Palazzo.  Mark certainly knows how to whip up an awesome dip!  Mucho GOOD! Mark’s recipe was made with ground beef and full fat options. If you choose to add ground beef, cook it in a skillet until brown.  You will also need a package of taco seasoning if adding meat. Once the meat is brown, add the seasoning and as much water as required by package directions. After this, continue with the rest of the assembly [...]

Run for Hunger 5K and Simply Fruit

It didn’t seem like Thanksgiving.  Got up at 6:45 and went for a 2 mile warm up run with Shane.  The road was quiet, no cars. It was cold.  I ran 1 1/2 miles before it finally dawned on me that it was a holiday.  At 9 o’clock I would be doing a 5K run, the Run for Hunger.  Ted and Teddy were running the race with me.  I left the house at 8 am to jog to the Parkway Ski Chalet and register for the run. Ted drove and brought our four food item donation plus a mere $5.00 [...]

Ted Does Dinner and a Recipe

Ted’s family came over for Sunday Celebration AFTER Christmas Feast!  I told Ted “It’s all on you, Honey!”   He had the cookbooks open looking up turkey recipes, potato recipes, vegetable recipes…what a guy!  I did help, doing only what I was told and trying …OH SO HARD…to keep my mouth shut in regards to suggestions.  You know how hard that is for someone who loves to cook?!!!!   The lasagna was assembled and waiting to be baked.  The turkey was cooking (I took care of my own Tofurky!)..now, time to chill the cranberry sauce.  What?!  NOT homemade???? Did Joanne do anything?  Well [...]

All That Good Food: Mezzetta Party

It all began back in November when Mezzetta sent us samples of their wonderful products.  We received Marinated Artichokes, Sundried tomatoes, Roasted Red Peppers, and recipes for hosting a “Mezzetta 20 Minute Miracle Party” featuring Mezzetta Martini’s.  We thought this would be a great plan for around the Christmas holidays.  The perfect little gathering of friends. Our party wasn’t a 20 minute Miracle party.  I turned the samples we received into a vast array of dishes in an attempt to please every palate.  Ted was in charge of the Martinis   The first martini offered to guests was the “Savory [...]
