Taper Weeks and Omelet with Soup

The last of the longer runs was Thursday morning, 18. 2 miles.  Shane was with me for 11 miles.  It was one of his longest runs yet and he STILL wanted to play Frisbee when we got home.  But there was no time to play because I was out the door again with Ted.  Ted won’t run as far as Shane, course Ted isn’t attached to my waist so he has a choice (poor Shane doesn’t).    I told Ted that around 4:30, I saw two people walking down the Parkway – way too early for strolling along.  He said [...]

Spring Tease and Your Favorite Preserve Bars

The snow is melting and the milder weather has set in.  I hope it lasts.  Peering out the window and seeing all that WHITE is old news now.  It’s time for some greenery.  We’ve set the clocks forward, a sure sign Spring is around the corner.  The disadvantage to the “Spring Forward” deal is that in the morning, when returning from my run, it’s STILL dark.  At night, it’s light out BUT what can you do with it?  The ground, where it isn’t still covered in snow, is soggy wet.  It’s a mess. You can’t do anything outside yet.   It’s [...]

Too Much Dye and Tuna Risotto

The recap of last weeks running is posted here:  Training log.  I update it daily if you’re keeping up.  Monday morning, for some weird reason, it was easy getting on the treadmill and cranking out 45 minutes worth of running.  I like those days!  I worked my legs but not with heavy weights. In fact the only two exercises that included substantial weight were the seated leg curls and squats.  I did standing leg curls, but only used ankle weights. I’m not doing anything extreme until that hamstring goes back into hiding.   The massage helped a lot on Saturday. The [...]

CEimB Wheat Pasta Salad with Walnuts and Feta

“It’s the easy-to-bring salad that everyone will be fawning over at your next potluck.”  Ellie describes this salad perfectly and without a doubt, everyone will “fawn” over it.  An absolutely, surprisingly, spectacular salad so easy to make and so utterly delicious. Can you tell that Ted and I thought this recipe was super?!! A fabulous pick by Kayte of Grandmas Kitchen Table.  This salad will be remade time after time after time. It was THAT good. Here is the on line recipe and of course go to Kayte’s site to see how she made this dish. The following are the [...]

CEimB: Apple Brown Betty

Lucky Betty!  She has such a delicious dessert named after her.  She will never be forgotten.  This week’s recipe from CEimB, is hosted by Jessica of Learning to Love Vegetables. Although the photos look dark (ok…burnt), the dessert was perfect.  You see, I used molasses in place of the brown sugar which colored my wheat bread a very dark, almost black color before it was cooked.  The result:  Excellent!  We really loved the molasses, not too sweet flavor.  For the original recipe, go to Jessica’s site or HERE for the foodnetwork online version.  The Apple Crumbles version goes like this….. [...]

CNYEats A Taste of Utica: Grilled Scallops

This week our recipe is on page 74 of A Taste of Utica Posted by psikopy (no spelling error, I promise) This recipe can be either an appetizer or a meal for two.  If you aren’t familiar with cooking scallops, this is a great time to start.  Tips:  Rinse scallops and pat dry.  Try to get as dry as possible because if you don’t the scallop will retain water and you won’t get a nice caramelization on the outside when grilled.  Fresh scallops are best.   1 lb Scallops 1/2 lemon cut in to wedges 2 cloves of garlic, sliced thin [...]
