Vitacost Inspired Kamut Salad with Carrots and Raisins

We were slugs on Sunday.  It started out with rain early in the morning.  We got soaked while running and someone tried to run me over.  Not just a close call but a true as the day I was born, attempt to hit me with their car.   Luckily I was near a telephone pole and able to duck in next to it.   Was the person drunk? At 6 am on a Sunday? Doubtful.  Was the person on their cell phone?  I threw my arms in the air and screamed at the top of my lungs. The reaction from the car [...]

Boilermaker Goals and Zucchini Fritters with Jerk

It’s almost time for the Boilermaker road race.  Excitement and nervousness fill my body.  Every year I say “If I can come in at 70 minutes, that’s it! I’m done! No more Boilermakers!”  The reality is that I’m just not that fast. I’ll be running Boilermakers for a long, long time.  Some of my running goals are unrealistic.  Sure it’s great to have goals and maybe some of those goals are far reaching but as long as I can maintain perspective, realize my limits, then why not hold tight to those extremes?  Who knows, anything can happen on any given [...]

Back Cracking and Meatless Spring Rolls with Carrot-Ginger Sauce

With so much running my body seems to have taken on some issues.  Nothing that can’t be fixed. Nothing serious.  Issues that with smart running-recovery, heat and ice can be fixed in no time.  After the last race, it was time to run easy, no plan, just enjoy the warmer weather with the dogs.  Unfortunately a little hip and shoulder pain has taken some of the fun out of my down time.  I decided to speed recovery up a bit and see a Chiropractor.  The first visit resulted in two painful back cracks adjustments and the recommendation to heat my [...]

At Tempo and Chickpea and Red Chard Soup

As told yesterday, I’m taking this week as sort of a recovery week from running.  The Boston Marathon is only 7 weeks away.  I’d probably be impossible to live with if I attempted a complete week off from running due to that feeling every runner knows….”I have to keep running. Gotta keep training.  Can’t stop now. That ache/pain isn’t THAT bad….”  That’s not to say this week is easy.  I’m just taking every other day off and Tuesday was a tough run. I don’t like tempo runs.  For anyone asking “what’s a tempo run?”, it’s a run done at a [...]

FOFF Y-Cinta Chicken and Squash Curry

First, I have to brag that I am getting my monthly massage this weekend.  YAY! I SOOO look forward to those invigorating (sometimes painful) deep tissue massage sessions that work out all the kinks I’ve put into my tissues and muscles.  If you live in the area, check out my latest Examiner article on the best place in town to get a massage. They even won an award! There is also a recipe for a healthy, antioxidant, hydrating Pear Ginger Water. The Chicken sCOOP of the week: Not quite the curry flavor I’m used to. Carla Vavala uses Red curry [...]

Crock Pot Tomato Lentil Casserole

Still running and still enjoying the lack of snow. It’s cold outside in the early morning but the roads are clear and we can’t ask for more from the weather in upstate New York.  My weekend runs have been fun.  I’ve been getting used to a shorter run on Saturdays and a longer run on Sunday, double timing the Saturday run.  Why? To get ready for the Goofy Challenge of course!  Ted and I have been running together for part of the run on the weekend. He doesn’t put the miles in that I do, he doesn’t have to but [...]
