Long Runs

Last Long Run Before Race Day

That last long run before your marathon.  If it goes well there is happiness and confidence going into the race.  If it doesn’t go well negative thoughts begin to bombard our thinking and set the stage for an epic fail of a race. Since a good run takes care of itself, lets look at a bad run and break it down.  This will be easy since today, I had one of those epic failure long runs.  Or did I?  Here’s the story and here is my running team: It’s important to note that going into this run, my legs had [...]

An Empty Nest

The heat, the humidity, chasing puppies, all got the better of me on Thursday.  I couldn’t get out of bed to do my mid range run of 100 minutes.  My eyes felt as if bowling balls were attached to the lids and pulling them closed.  I took the day off from exercise but decided I would plan on doing my 20 mile run a day early since I had such a good rest on Thursday. 20 miles went pretty slow this Friday morning.  I enjoyed the scenery in the switchbacks a little too much and slowed my pace waaayyy down, [...]

Sunny 18 and FOFF Spinach and Artichoke Stuffed Shells

I took the day off from the office and enjoyed an 18 mile long run.  The weather was perfect, my legs weren’t.  I had enough carbs in me to fuel an ultra but mentally wasn’t very tough.  That doesn’t mean I didn’t enjoy my run.  It was gorgeous outside. I ran 6 miles with Shane.  It’s always nice running with my big dog.  Took off again from home after dropping him off to run the switchbacks.  The shaded woods were so nice that I ran that hilly route twice. While running up to the eagle from the switchbacks, I notices [...]

Deflated, Defeated, Defunct and Bow Ties with Shrimp

I’m feeling flat.  I lost the mental challenge of the long run.  I’m exhausted and the energy cells are no longer operating.  In other words, deflated, defeated, and defunct. To be quite honest, it was difficult working up the excitement for this weeks 20 mile run.  I took in the right amount of nutrition and prepared with water bottle and gels for the road.  When I went to get my phone, it had no battery charge.  Shane and I were going to be miles away from home with no means to contact Ted.  NAKED!  Since there was no way for [...]

Healthdesigns and Angell Bars

January 3rd, 2011.  Phew!  It’s a Monday and it’s back to work to begin a new year with a lot to look forward to.  There are exciting things going on for my partner and I at work.  We will introduce a new product to market this year.  Blogging might just have to take the back seat. But for now, we’re still blogging and this is what’s up for today…. First, as you known my New Year began with a 10K run that was less than a stellar performance on my part. Was it because of my aches and pains? Was [...]

Running, Wrinkles, The Willows, and Rum Based Glaze

Long run today.  20.08 total miles.  This was a meaningful run because average pace was under 9 minutes, 8.58 to be exact.  Best yet for the long run. I ran with Jenn and had a great run.  She enjoys torturous runs. We went up Henderson Street, a mile long incline.  UGG!  Today’s run began with a 1.8 mile run with Shane. Can’t leave the dog out of the loop.  Then I trucked on down the Parkway for 5 miles.  Jenn and I ran about 5 miles until we split up and I continued on home.  The long way home, did [...]
