I Heart Keenwah: The Mother Grain

After a week of what Ted and I now believe to be Salmonella poisoning, we are getting back to normal. Although the thought of eating eggs still makes my tummy turn and I can’t eat salads, I am taking in a lot of good nutrition by lentil soup, gluten free whole grain toast, and snacking on iheartkeenwah (more on that below).   I even stepped out for a chilling but effective 5 mile run this morning.  That’s the thing about having dogs, they need exercise and force you to get out there and JUST DO IT.  So we did it.  Shane [...]

Cold Running and FOFF Spaghetti Squash Au Gratin

The mornings have been colder, not wet, not windy, just cold.  It’s hard getting used to running in the cold and knowing what to wear so as not to get too hot and have to carry half your clothing in your hands or around your waist.  Legs don’t seem to be a problem, I wear capris at 45 to 50 degrees and cool weather running tights in colder weather.  It’s just the upper body that seems to be the challenge.  This week it has been in the high 20’s to mid 30’s  My hands seem to be the upset this [...]

Recovery and Rudi’s Gluten Free Tortillas are a hit

It’s odd how you can feel great after running 26.2 miles faster than you have ever done before and even the day after, you’re a little sore but still proud of yourself for not hobbling around, limping, moaning, you might even consider going for a run.  It’s even odder, more odd? that the day after that your body feels as if you’ve been rolled and kicked.  Your stomach is crying out for more food but at the same time being picky about what it receives. On this day, you’re pretty darned glad you don’t have to run. Yes, recovery is [...]

Namaste Pizza with Cheesy Corn, Plum Tomatoes and Basil

What’s been going on with this marathon training? Well…..it’s been going. This past week, I did manage to get minimum miles in and it went something like this: Monday, 3 1/4  miles running easy. Tuesday, took the day off. I ran Saturday, Sunday and Monday then bonked! Wednesday, was a tempo run.  Ran 7.4 miles total and 3 miles at tempo. Thursday was my mid range run of 10.3 miles at an easy pace. Friday, another day off. Saturday, the long run. It was tough to get going. The humidity was high, I carried a heavy water bottle around my [...]
