Benefits of Both Spouses Being Fit

It was another frigid morning.  The alarm went of and I got up. The dogs followed me into the bathroom where we have a wireless weather station.  *A very handy place to have a weather station since you can sit and contemplate options for the day based upon rain or shine, warmth or cold. The outside temperature read 4 degrees.  I thought “I can’t do this again. I’m just not in the mood.”  I turned right around, both dogs still following in expectation of suiting up and going outside, stood by the bedroom door, they left the room, I shut [...]

One 20 of Three and Estate 169 at Twin Ponds

Run for Sherry Did you remember? It’s not too late. Run in remembrance. Shane and I put our bibs on and ran for Sherry today.  If you haven’t done it yet, print your bib and go for a walk, run, bike ride, just get out there and remember Sherry. Run Recap: Today was Shane’s first half marathon distance run. YAY SHANE!  13.6 miles for the puppy.  That was enough for him although he STILL wanted to play Frisbee. No way. “Mom” has to tell puppy his limitations. I left Shane to rest and went out to complete my first 20 [...]

Focus and Control plus Pumpkin Pineapple Barley Pudding

Going the distance in endurance sports means you need to focus. You need to maintain control of body and mind. What does this mean to me and does it mean the same to you? Focus: As we’re running along and the miles start to add up, it’s normal to lose focus. Sometimes zoning out isn’t a bad thing but you need to bring yourself back to the job at hand. To do this, you need an “on switch”. That switch is anything personal to you that reminds you of the job you need to get done.  It might be a [...]

On the Road Again and Apricot Cream Pie

I hinted that my favorite day of the week was Friday but I’m thinking that I don’t have a favorite one whole day. Friday evenings are my favorite nights and Saturday mornings are equally as wonderful. Saturday morning, I get up when my eyes pop open which is usually too early for most but I love it. The air is fresh, it’s dark and peaceful. The best time to get started on a long run. Today was a rough start. Shane came downstairs and wanted to go out so I took him around the block then dropped him off at [...]

Super Endurance and Blueberry Cream Muffins

The title is a bit misleading in that I make no claims that the recipe herein will give you super endurance. Although, the blueberry IS one of nature’s recovery fruits …along with: kiwi, cranberries, blackberries, prunes, raspberries, strawberries, apples, sweet cherries, plums, beans, broccoli, and artichokes.  Why? Those foods are overflowing with antioxidants. Even though I already knew that about some of my favorite fruits and veggies, it was reiterated in Dean Karnazes book “50/50 Secrets I Learned Running 50 Marathons in 50 Days – and How You Too Can Achieve Super Endurance!”  What a great book! I just love [...]

Dining out before the long run

Today was a long run.  It was tough because Shane did his long run of 8 miles earlier in the week and wasn’t going to go for 2 1/2 hours with me today. He and I set out for 5 1/2 miles before I dropped him off at home to continue on my way.  That’s the hard part:  dropping him off at home.  As he looked at me through the window, I so wanted to stay home with him and play ball in the back yard.  That couldn’t happen. I had at least 2 plus hours of running ahead of [...]
