Boston Marathon

The 115th Boston Marathon: April 18, 2011

Awake at 4 waiting for the alarm to go off at 5 am. Phase I:  Get on the hotel shuttle to Boston Common where the buses waited to take runners to Athletes Village.   My starting time was at 10:40 am.  It was difficult knowing what I would do with all my time and I didn’t want to eat a lot.  I never do before a race, but knew I needed something more than just my standard banana with peanut butter and a Snickers Marathon Bar.  I took a bite of a toasted Ezekiel Bagel (gluten free) which I had toasted [...]

New Marathon Shoes and The Marathon Cookie

I told you about my foot pain (outside ball of right foot) that came on during my last long run.  I hemmed and hawed over what to do.  I love my Newton performance shoes.  They took me through my first marathon and I was planning on partnering with them at Boston.   The Boston course is hard and taxing on the legs and feet.  I don’t dare risk having that pain strike during the middle of my run.  So I went over to see the folks at The Sneaker Store.  They gave me their complete undivided attention.  They took me through [...]

Melt Down, A Revelation and GoLean Granola Thumbprint Cookie

THE MELT DOWN: I suffered yet ANOTHER meltdown concerning Boston. I was confirming hotel reservations and discovered I had booked my sister in a MARYLAND hotel! That’s the STATE of Maryland. How that happened, I really cannot tell you. I changed the booking but had to spend another $100. MORE per night. Ok…whatever. The second shock was the hotel room for me, booked through Marathon Tours (by the way, they are NOT nice people at Marathon Tours!) for the race, was NOT 1 mile from the finish line. It was across the water, 3 ½ miles away. It sounds close [...]

Do Your Own Thing and Gluten Free Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip

I have myself all worked up and scared to death about running the Boston Marathon. I keep trying to find some kind of solace in articles and posts on the internet from runners who have experienced the “Great Race”. Then I take a step back and say to myself “why are you getting all worked up?” In response to my own question, I think it’s because no matter how many times I repeat to myself that I don’t need to set a time goal, deep down I think that in deserving to run Boston I DO need to run a [...]

Goals and Chocolate with Francois: Chocolate Pecan Tart

1820.54 miles. That's my official tally for 2010.  The road miles put in for running enjoyment and race training.  So I didn't hit 2000 miles but who knows what 2011 might bring.  I'm hoping to run Boston without pain (or at least not too much).  In any event, I'm hoping to RUN BOSTON and that's what I'm working towards in training for the next 3 months.  It's not going to be easy.  In fact, last week I ran over 40 miles and this week I'll run 45 plus and it was TOUGH!  I'm wondering how I'll ever log my goal [...]
