Mystic and Pan Roasted Cauliflower with Peas

Ted celebrated a birthday last week and for his get away celebration, we traveled to Mystic, CT.   We spent the night at Foxwoods Casino Resort then had the most wonderful day in Mystic, CT “…the town of Mystic exudes New England charm. Shop one-of-a-kind shops downtown (with its landmark Bascule Bridge) or at the quaint Olde Mistick Village. Linger over candlelight and an after-dinner drink at one of our cool eateries. You can even cozy up in the mansion where Bogie and Bacall honeymooned….”  - source We had a great time.  We stayed up until 3 am.  Really! You get [...]

In the Pool Running and Banana Nilla-Gran Pudding

I had two good morning runs on Saturday and Sunday.  To top off my park runs, I decided to tough it out in the cold water and go with Ted to the college for a swim. Ted swam, I ran in the water with my support belt and paddle gloves.  It was  a good 35 minutes of pool running. The key to pool running is to keep your body in the same position as if you were on the road running, basically, true to your natural running form.  This is challenging because there is an urge to lean forward in [...]

Floor Re-Do, Fit To-Do, and Portabellas Sunnyside

Here we go again, getting ourselves in a mess. We’ve had to rip up the old Italian marble (can you hear me crying?!!! ) and we are putting in some new marble.  I loved our old floor but the grout was messed up, some tiles were broken, cracked and loose.  It was time to update the house.  Now we’re in a mess for a week. I can’t stand the house in an upset. SPEAKING of upset!  I came home from work to find Ted inhaling yet ANOTHER one of my favorite new protein shakes! He was just sitting there, outside, [...]

Arthur, M.R.R and Taste of the Tropics Pasta

At The Movies… We were pleasantly surprised with the remake of the movie “Arthur” Although we started watching it with a lot of skepticism, the result was hysterical laughter through many of the scenes. We like Russell Brand so much, we picked up another movie, “Get Him to the Greek” DUD!  We didn’t even watch it to the half way point.  It wasn’t our style.  Call us prudes but we don’t like heavy druggy movies.  It’s just not funny. See any good movies lately? M.R.R. = Mid Range Run It was a terrific morning to run.  The humidity was down [...]

A great way to, not only celebrate Cinco de Mayo but take pride in  the environment as well as earn money for your favorite charity.  All that in just 3 terrific recipes. Here’s the scoop… A company named TerraCycle has partnered with Mission Foods to collect usually non-recyclable wrappers from tortilla packages, chips, and other products.  Organizations in your area can contribute to the recycling project by collecting packaging, send to TerraCycle and in return, get 2 cents per item for the charity of choice (chosen by you or the organization). Race Recovery and Zucchini Fingers

Marathon Recovery  (Photos from Marathonfoto.com. Great place to get your pics!) The last thing we think about when training for a marathon is the recovery to follow.   Actually, recovery should take as much planning as the marathon training schedule.  Recovery begins within 15 to 30 minutes of finishing the race.   You need to start repairing your body and you do that by eating some healthy foods (healthy protein and carbohydrates), recovery drinks and/or supplements.   Those hours and the days following are just as important as every other phase of training because it allows you to be your best when you [...]
