The perfect weekend spent with my Valentine. We went for an overnight stay at Geneva On The Lake.
This beautiful Inn sits on the shore of Seneca Lake, just a few miles down from the first New York State winery on the Seneca Lake Wine trail from the West.
We stopped at only a few wineries Saturday afternoon
It was warm but no fire
The temperatures were in the low 30’s, sun shining which made for a nice drive and no need for heavy coats while going from car to tasting room.
Belhurst Castle offered delicious tastings of chocolate at no additional charge to complement the wine.
Dark chocolate blueberries
Rich white chocolate with flakes of peach, lemon, or raspberry
We had a back room tasting at H. J. Weimer Winery (our personal favorite!)
Finishing with a small glass or two at Fox Run
After a few hours of tasting, we needed to relax in our home away from home at the Inn. Greeted by a Bell Boy named Jason who immediately took charge and talked non stop as if he had known us for years. Jason walked us to our room, showed us around and gave us instructions to call him if anything was needed.
In the refrigerator we found two complementary bottles of water and a bottle of wine from Swedish Hill Winery. Pity we were all “wined out” by that time.
We watched a little Olympics then got ready for dinner in The Parlor
The Parlor: Offers an elegant living room setting with a view of the gardens and Seneca Lake. The Parlor can seat up to 15 for dinner or up to 25 people for cocktails. The plush sofas add an old-world air to an intimate room that was once the south porte cochere of the mansion.
Rosemary Bread, Jumbo Shrimp Cocktail with Dilled Cocktail Sauce, Fresh Green Salads with Apple Balsamic Dressing and a wedge of blue cheese. A nice little mascarpone cherry-cabernet puff to tease our palates. Entrees were almond encrusted salmon over wild rice and roasted brussel sprouts. Filet mignon over bacon mashed potatoes and brussel sprouts. Everything was superb!
We didn’t last long after our meal. I have to confess falling asleep on the couch and Ted suggesting we go to bed. It was only 9:30pm.
Even though we were on a mini holiday and the weather was BITTERLY cold Sunday morning, it looked beautiful outside and the road was calling. We ran from the Inn to the Seneca trail on the lake which was in town along Route 14. An easy, apart from the cold, 6 mile run.
Ted wouldn’t stop moving while I took photos and said, “Take my picture as I run away”
After a hot shower/bath following our run, we had fruit, oatmeal and yogurt from the continental breakfast buffet. We didn’t want to fill up because on our drive home, we planned to stop in Skaneateles to meet two very good friends for a larger, more relaxed late morning feast.
This was one of the best Valentine weekends ever! How was yours?
Haha that is like my dad, he is always taking photos and my mum and I, we just refuse to wait in the hot, cold, anything 😛
Loving your holiday pics though, you look so content! And the scenery is beautiful 😀
Cheers
