Someone’s Listening and FOFF Tequila Lime Chicken

I was feeling down and out and trying to decide whether my malaise was due to recent events regarding tummy trouble, the cold winter weather, or thoroughly depressed because I missed an event I had my heart set on for years, The Goofy Challenge.  The thoughts of this years big birthday loomed heavy on my mind and certainly didn’t do anything to make matters better. The dogs demanded attention, having no pity on the sick, wounded or depressed, I took them on a walk down the road.  It was cold, gray, and snowy outside. Everything seemed so gloomy.  Thoughts went [...]

His Longest and Treacle Tart

Ted completed his longest run EVER on Sunday.  12 1/2 miles.  He was strong and positive the entire way. Since it was my day for 18 miles, I started out with 6 miles split between a run with Shane and Zoey.  With the dogs all tired out, Ted and I started our trek from the house along the Boilermaker route. The weather was good, no wind, rain, snow.  It was about 35 degrees.  There was a little Achilles pain between the 7th and 8th miles.  That went away only to be replaced with hamstring aches.  All pain disappeared during the [...]

Should Have Run a Marathon and Energy Meal Cookie

I had a unique experience today.  I ran 18 miles and I felt terrific.  In fact, my Garmin chimed at mile 8 and I thought it was mile 7.  The weather was cooler at 52 degrees and I ran with Shane those first 8 3/4 miles.  After dropping Shane off and setting out again, it took me a mile or two to get my head back into it since Shane almost pulled me over in the driveway in pursuit of deer.  This freaked me out since I look at the scar from the last fall I had earlier in the [...]

Crossing Bridges and Bioenergy RIBOSE

Last night there was something said about a “blue moon”.  It didn’t look blue but it was full and bright.  Last night, the sky was absolutely brilliant.  Ted and I stood with binoculars gazing up at the glistening orb while discussing the New York sky.  It was Friday night. We had indulged in one glass of wine, a margarita and excellent Italian cuisine at Chesterfields.  Simple discussions were to be expected. What should have been an early night turned into a late one for us because we were completely absorbed in the DVD “Hunger Games”.  Have you seen it? Read [...]

CNYEats A Taste of Utica Italian Chocolate Cookies

Saturday I ran my longest long run before Air Force Marathon on September 15th.  It was 22 miles in perfect weather without any major aches or pains.  Shane and I ran a slow 6 miles to start the morning then I continued on, incorporating some hefty inclines in my run.  The steepest part of the hills turned into a run/walk effort. 22.02 miles with a moving pace of 9:58.  Slow but within my training pace range.  I had to stop on Sessions Road. It was such a wonderful down hill with a great view and that wonderful fresh, “cow natural” [...]

Meatless Any Day of the Week

Before I tell you about the best EVER meatless recipe, I have to tell you how great this summer has been for running. The weather has been pretty darned perfect. Sure it’s been hot but my body has adjusted.  There has been no excuse to run on the treadmill.  Speed work, one day a week, has been bearable.  The long runs haven’t been so awful (maybe because I’ve been running those long miles so slow).  My mid range run has been the most enjoyable run of all.  I’ve approached races with an easy mind and minimal anxiety.  It’s been good. [...]
