FOFF Lentil and Sausage Soup (Vegetarian Version Offered)

Carla Vavala sure knows how to cook. This was another big hit in our house. Even though I made two recipes, one for me using vegetarian sausage and one for Teddy and Ted using Italian sausage, the stew/soup was easy to make. Delicious.  There was just one problem.  Ted got the 24 hour bug about 3 hours after eating dinner.  His first thought:  FOOD POISONING! I was offended at the very thought!    After all, I’m overly careful about “use by” dates.  I don’t keep left overs longer than a day or two, depending on the dish.  I smell raw [...]

FOFF Soft Pretzels or Potatoes and Peas Soup (Stew)

Last week I promised we would make pretzels.  I didn’t let you down because a new FOFF member (and I sincerely hope she keeps cooking with us) was excited about making the pretzels.  She ran with the recipe and made it all her own.  Check out Spice’s take on “Aunt Carla’s Soft Pretzels” on page 8 of our book She did a great job with this recipe! It was beefy and not a dish for me. I was going to make it vegetarian by using beans in place of beef and vegetable broth in place of beef broth but Ted likes beef stew so I stuck to the recipe and [...]

CEimB Tortellini Spinach Soup

Oh how I miss the warm days of summer… However, if it were hot outside, we probably wouldn’t be cooking soup! This week Bri of Yoshimi vs Motherhood picked our Ellie recipe. It was the perfect meal for a rainy, cold night in New York. Quick, easy, filling and delish!  Visit Bri’s blog for the “real”recipe because, as you know, I tweaked it a bit. 1 TBS olive oil 1 medium yellow onion, chopped 2 tsp minced garlic 1 carrot, peeled and chopped small 2 ribs of celery, chopped 8 oz sliced mushrooms 1 tsp dried oregano 1 tsp dried [...]
