Living Ageless with Food

Well, I did it again  …. I’m signed up for the  Philadelphia Marathon on November 20th, 2011.  Why? Because if I want a better marathon time, I have to keep entering marathons. So here we go again but more on that later.  For now, here is a lengthy write up about nutritional benefits of certain foods. LIVING AGELESS When we were on vacation, I picked up a copy of Natural Awakenings Magazine (S.W.FL).  It offered a good article on page 46 “Foods for Ageless Beauty: Nourishing Skin from Inside and Out”.  It’s inspiring to know that the foods we love [...]

The Plans and Braised Leek with Green Peppers and Oranges

The workout plan for the week has gone fairly well, except for the Tuesday glitch but those things happen especially the week after a wonderful vacation. So I never got my bike ride in but I did manage the 45 min. of Elliptical.  This is how it went. Wednesday was my mid week dedicated running day. Not too long, mileage wise since the half marathon is on Sunday. I ran just about 8 miles Thursday was a cross training day but the dog has to get in some exercise so after 45 min. on the elliptical, and 20 minutes of [...]

No Alarm and Sautéed Spinach with Pine Nuts and Golden Raisins

I HATE IT when that happens:  forgetting to set the alarm.  As you know, I had my workouts planned for the week.  Tuesday morning, if I got up at 4 am, I would have time to ride the bike for 45 minutes, lift weights, and run for 30 minutes with Shane.  At 3:15 I woke up and hated that I had to use the bathroom only to get back into bed for 45 minutes longer.  I thought I’d lay awake until the alarm went off but the next thing I knew, Ted was up and dressed.  I looked at the [...]

Interval Training and Time Out Snack Mix

It has been months since I did any interval training. My focus for Boston was all about Tempo, Marathon Pace, and Easy runs. The hamstring and hip would give me problems if I tried to do any intense speed work.  Even after tempo runs, my aches and pains would be aggravated. Last Tuesday night, I decided it was time for intervals around the college track.  Ted and Shane were my coaches and timed my 400m speed sessions.  There seems to be a variety of ways to engage in interval training and the pundits disagree on the best speed to recovery [...]

Welch’s Vine Tool and Minimalist Cookies

It’s time, once again, for motivational quotes (just in case you don’t get them in your email from Runners World) for your Spring marathon.  By Hal Higdon Think positive. You are a special person. Reward yourself with self-praise as you achieve each interim goal en route to the marathon. By Jeff Galloway The more you frame the marathon as a stressful experience, the more negative messages you’ll receive. But it’s just as easy to frame it as a positively challenging journey. The words that keep us going. Looong Run…. I eked out my long run Thursday morning because I had [...]
