2013 Cincinnati Flying Pig Marathon

Who worries about running hills?  Me! Well at least before running the Flying Pig.  Ted and I drove the course in reverse the day before and I thought “This won’t be a fast one, that’s for sure!” It was a roller coaster ride.  Come race day, those hills weren’t that bad. Now that’s according to me.  Some of the people we spoke to after the race said it was really tough because they didn’t train well.  To be honest, I relied on my Boston Marathon to get me through this since I didn’t run hills over the winter.  My running [...]

Mohawk Hudson River Marathon 2012

I thought “you don’t have to run this race. you got your PR for the year 3 weeks ago at Air Force so WHY do you want to stand here freezing this morning?!” Then I decided since my number and shirt had been picked up, and since I liked the shirt so much, in order to wear it, I better run it.  Let’s see how it goes. Ted drove us to the start instead of having to wait for the bus in Albany.  We spent 45 minutes before the race in a nice warm car, only having to endure the [...]

More Marathoning and Easy Baked Pilaf with Edamame and Artichokes

Don’t you just dread the work load that awaits when returning from a really good vacation?  I was hit hard this past week after returning from Arizona all because of, among other things, an upcoming trade show in Philadelphia.  This month has been one trip/event right after another.  It’s a shame to rush through life but I can’t help but look forward to May coming to an end, culminating in a long Memorial Day weekend.  As June approaches, the thought of undertaking another marathon training program looms in the gray matter over my shoulders.  It won’t be 20 or 18 [...]

Training Schedules: A Look Back

Do you save your workout schedules? First of all, do you even HAVE a workout schedule?  If you don't, you should. It's a great way to compare one year to the next because if you notice changes in your body, frame of mind, fitness level, you can see what changes you've made that are or are not working.  If you do maintain a schedule, do you look back to see what you were doing at this point in your training a year ago?  I did just that the other day.   Boston training 2011: This time last year.  Highest mileage for [...]
