Syracuse Half Marathon 2015

Race day jitters and all that. Not sure why but it happens. I was travelling out to the race with two friends.   We are well matched in pace for training runs but when Amy hits the race course, Shirley and I are left eating her dust.   We have fun. The support and information regarding this race was outstanding.  Here it is, almost word for word. *Make sure to check out the post race eats.  There is a live band as well! Syracuse Half 2015 Race Weekend Information Syracuse’s largest and most popular road race. 3499 runners will hit the streets [...]

Syracuse Half Marathon and Healthy Whole Grain Lasagna

This week, I used a local half marathon for my tempo training run. After running a 2 mile warm up with the dogs, Ted and I left for Syracuse.  The drive out there didn’t look promising and never mind very motivating! A white out on the thruway out to Syracuse. Temperature, 24 degrees. Wind at 13 mph. It was a bigger crowd this year than last in spite of the horrid weather. I didn’t dress very warm, a long sleeve sports shirt and Marathon Maniac wind breaker. When they handed me the Syr. Tee shirt for the race, I thought [...]

Why Do It and Monster Cookie Cake

In Myrtle Beach.  I’ll spend time with my parents as well as run the Diva Myrtle Beach Half Marathon with sorority sisters.  It’s a weekend to get excited.  Status of the foot:  It’s achy when I rest but feels fine when I’m walking. Classic plantar fasciitis? My dad asked “Do you take care of your feet?”  My answer “Well…not really”  His eyes flew open wide in disbelief.  Guess I’ve always taken my feet for granted. I would rather go barefoot than wear shoes even if walking on hot, stony pavement.  I’ve never ritualistically rubbed cream to soften my feet.  I’ve [...]

Syracuse Half Marathon 2013 and Zoey’s First Birthday

It was a good day. It FELT like it was going to be a good day as I ran with Shane for a 2 mile warm up before leaving the house. It was a PR at 1:46:24, average pace 8:08.  Catherine Valley was a 1:46:48 so it was close, but I’ll take it. It was a good enough time for a 3rd place age group finish. STATS: Place 238 out of 1014 Finishes.  3rd out of 52 runners in age group.  I think it was due to the really neat course. It was a rolling course with the worst hill (which wasn’t that [...]

Catherine Valley Half Marathon 2012

We drove through Ithaca to Watkins Glen for the Catherine Valley Half Marathon, running on Sunday August 19th.  Saturday afternoon, with incredibly beautiful weather, we enjoyed a casual drive from Utica and stopped for lunch in Ithaca, where we picked up the race packet at Finger Lakes Running and Triathlon Company on Ithaca Commons.  We took our time and arrived in Watkins Glen at 4 pm.  Such a beautiful area! The sun began to set and the water glistened, setting up for an evening made for romance. The Famous Zoltar told us so! We perused the local wine shop and [...]

ARC Half Marathon 2011

I put it out there. It scares me to announce such a specific plan such as running a race for a goal time.  That’s scary.  Now everyone knows. Do they think “she can’t do it, it’s too much faster than her last race” or “what a risk she’s taking trying to reach for such an aggressive time” or “she should never run a race with a goal pace like that”…endless thoughts went through my mind regarding what everyone would think.  I started some good self talk and the conversation went a bit like this: You always make every attempt to [...]
