Apple Charlotte: An Irresistible British Pudding

This month we are featuring Great Britain at the site of My Kitchen My World.  There were SO many dishes I wanted to make, after all, my parents are English and I was raised on some wonderful, traditional English meals. After much hemming and hawing, I decided to make use of the apple bounty, abundant this time of year in upstate New York.  The recipe is very easy and also known as Brown Betty.  Fattening, yes. Difficult, no.  Serves 6 – 8 1 cup dark brown sugar cinnamon – you will be sprinkling this on as you work the recipe [...]

Wild Apple Crumble Pie

Coming back from one of our many daily walks (or runs) with the dogs, we notice how many apples were on the apple trees in our yard.  We don’t do anything to promote the growth of these apples but we live in upstate New York where you don’t have to do much to grow a beautiful apple tree. We have the larger crab apples.  The fruit is crisp but only slightly sweet. We also have smaller, thorny crab apples. The fruit is small, more red, yellow flesh, a bit drier but very sweet.  Ted and I gathered a box full [...]

CNYEats A Taste of Utica St. Josephs Creampuffs

Fitness first then some really tasty treats. I could not get myself in the mood to do a 15 mile long run this week. Initially scheduled for Friday but when the alarm went off, I thought it was just too early in training to get up at that hour to hit the road running.  I ran and easy, feel good 5.8 miles then took a day off on Saturday to be a spectator at the YMCA Triathlon in support of team AYOUB. Sunday would have to be the day for a long run. No excuses. It was going to be [...]

No Excuses and Tiramisu–An Italian Pick Me Up

The holidays are no excuse to quit the exercise routine.  In fact, all those delicious eats and treats offer more of an incentive to put heart and soul into the workout.  My long run on Christmas eve was 12 miles. It wasn’t easy even though I ran more than double just over a month ago.  The weather was cold and there was some wind.  At mile 9 when my mouth was craving some H2O, my hands were so cold I couldn’t get my water bottle detached from the belt to take a drink.  My body was chilled but nothing compared [...]

CNYEats A Taste of Utica Pumpkin Bread

Memories from Ticia: “What do you remember as summertime nostalgic eats in Oneida County?”   “Me:  Fresh blueberry pierogi with melted butter and drifts of sugar; sliced cucumbers in sour cream with vinegar, salt & pepper, and lots of fresh dill; fresh sweet carrots dug right out of Babci’s garden and rinsed off under her outdoor faucet; hamburgers and barbeque from SAL’s BAR-B-Q on Oriskany Blvd.; hot fudge sundaes from the The Frozen Cow (which had mini-golf too); Lime Rickeys for .39 cents at the Neisner’s in the Whitesboro Plaza, and you got to keep the tall green rippled glass. Good [...]

Mixed Fruit Cheese Pie

What a busy day.  How about you guys?  It was crazy GOOD at work today.  The hours fly by when your so busy. I just have to share the following recipe with you.  Crazy Delicious to go with my Crazy day!  When I got the monthly fruit delivery from Harry and David, I glanced at the little leaflet that accompanies the fruit.  A recipe jumped out at me and grabbed at my wheels of creativity.  Of course I couldn't just follow their delicious looking suggestion.  I took one peach, one nectarine, looked at the over ripe bananas on the counter [...]
