Cheesecake, Cheesecake, Cheesecake…

I realize you will be looking for a cheesecake recipe based on this post’s title.  Truth is, I have no new cheesecake recipe to offer.  At the end of my rant, you will find a repost of the Baileys Cheesecake recipe from 2012, so appropriate for this month to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. Cheesecake, Cheesecake, Cheesecake…on the treadmill in Charleston South Carolina, running 8 miles with no headphones, no television.  Boring! The only noise in the room was my feet hitting the belt of the treadmill which sounded like the word “cheese – cake, cheese – cake, cheese – cake”. [...]

What’s for Lunch at Rice Paddy

A gourmet restaurant for a very special lunch celebration.  It was my mother’s birthday but the day started out with stress for Mum.  First, a broken bearing in the washing machine, too expensive to fix.  Next, no hot water and the gas was low in the house. Phew! Don’t the holidays take their toll?! Overuse!!! All was not lost. Mum got a brand new washing machine on her birthday –SAME DAY DELIVERY!  Can’t beat that.   The gas company immediately sent a truck out to fill the tank. Once the gas pressure was back up, the hot water started working again.   [...]

Ambassador Restaurant: The old Alpine

If you’re familiar with Utica from years ago, you remember The Alpine Restaurant where you had to wait for your dinner but when it finally arrived, it was absolute perfection. Old time Italian with Frank Sinatra always playing over the sound system.  Well now the same old place is open again.  A different chef but same decor.  No Sinatra in your ear but maybe it could be requested….? Ambassador Restaurant (ask for Phidel) 537 Albany St. Utica, NY 13501 (315) 507-3953 It’s called the Ambassador.  After a drink at the bar, chatting with two regulars, we sat in our favorite [...]

Brewster Inn: Bike, Eat, and Run

It took us 7 months but we finally used our gift certificate from Richard for the Brewster Inn in Cazenovia.  It was Wonderful…and I really mean with a capital “W”.  We checked into room number 31, a carriage house room, by 2 pm.  A quick change into bike shorts and off we went on a 15 mile ride along the Cazenovia Triathlon bike course which Ted will be doing next weekend.  It was very scenic with bounding fields, large houses on the lake, boats, farms, just perfect.  We took our time over the rolling hill course.  I stayed far enough [...]

Restaurant Review: Pedro’s Kitchen

Saturday started with a pretty good run. The roads were clear. The temperature was mild with only gusty wind to worry about.  Shane and I covered 5 1/2 miles then Zoey and I finished off the run for a total of 8.15 miles.  Maybe Mexican food works well for me. A new little Mexican restaurant in Vernon, New York boasting authentic Mexican cuisine. Ted and I decided to give this little restaurant-bar a try. The menu was extensive and offered all the typical choices found in a Mexican style eatery. There were a few items that gave us cause to [...]

First it was the foot and The Secret Garden

Didn’t do a lot of running this week.  Last Sunday during a short 3 mile run/walk with Ted and Shane, my left foot started hurting. It was a nagging ache all day.  Monday through Wednesday, I continued with short runs tolerating that aching foot.  Thursday was a different story.  My entire lower half hurt from a tough leg session with the personal trainer and there was a pain in my ankle. Just walking with Shane resulted in aggravating the ankle.  The foot pain was gone, trading one pain for another. Friday, Ted took Shane for his morning walk but later [...]
