Bouchon: Nutter Butters

Training has begun.  Training for the 2014 Boston Marathon.  I’m not ready. I have been enjoying the extra sleep, the slow and easy runs for how ever many miles my legs feel like going.  Now miles and minutes will be written down, reviewed, progress noted, and every day counted. Let battle commence! But first, fill up on Nutter Butters! Who doesn’t like those peanut butter cookies shaped like a peanut?  If you love peanut butter, you just adore those cookies.  Now you can make them even better because Bouchon has a recipe on page 36 that is just amazing.  The [...]

Hershey’s ROLO Mini Pretzel Treats

No running this morning.  It was –3 …brrrrr…. This morning was a perfect day to work the legs in a different way: weights.  And after 25 minutes in the gym, the dogs wanted to go out AGAIN!  We took a walk and called it a day. Getting ready for the holiday and baking something super easy, super fast, super delicious to add to the Christmas cookie tray! The Rolo Pretzel Delight from Hershey, recipe found right on the back of a bag of Rolo’s.  Imagine how surprised I was when I sat there eating Rolo’s and discovered a diet saving [...]

Melt Down, A Revelation and GoLean Granola Thumbprint Cookie

THE MELT DOWN: I suffered yet ANOTHER meltdown concerning Boston. I was confirming hotel reservations and discovered I had booked my sister in a MARYLAND hotel! That’s the STATE of Maryland. How that happened, I really cannot tell you. I changed the booking but had to spend another $100. MORE per night. Ok…whatever. The second shock was the hotel room for me, booked through Marathon Tours (by the way, they are NOT nice people at Marathon Tours!) for the race, was NOT 1 mile from the finish line. It was across the water, 3 ½ miles away. It sounds close [...]

Welch’s Vine Tool and Minimalist Cookies

It’s time, once again, for motivational quotes (just in case you don’t get them in your email from Runners World) for your Spring marathon.  By Hal Higdon Think positive. You are a special person. Reward yourself with self-praise as you achieve each interim goal en route to the marathon. By Jeff Galloway The more you frame the marathon as a stressful experience, the more negative messages you’ll receive. But it’s just as easy to frame it as a positively challenging journey. The words that keep us going. Looong Run…. I eked out my long run Thursday morning because I had [...]

Do Your Own Thing and Gluten Free Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip

I have myself all worked up and scared to death about running the Boston Marathon. I keep trying to find some kind of solace in articles and posts on the internet from runners who have experienced the “Great Race”. Then I take a step back and say to myself “why are you getting all worked up?” In response to my own question, I think it’s because no matter how many times I repeat to myself that I don’t need to set a time goal, deep down I think that in deserving to run Boston I DO need to run a [...]
