Hamstring Hurts and Matcha “Meatball” Cookies

I haven’t had this kind of pain in my hamstring since 2011.  Why now?! Maybe because things seem to come full circle in life and aches and pains are one of those things.  Right hamstring is super tight and restrictive in movement so a visit to the PT tomorrow has been scheduled. Lets hope there is a quick solution because Marine Corp Marathon is just weeks away and then it’s right into Space Coast at the end of November. Oh to run pain free again! That’s all I ask. Running for cookies.  Matcha Meatballs Crisp, dark and delicious.  These “meatball” [...]

Cuccidati: Italian Fig Cookies with Gluten Free Pastry Crust

So much for not running. I did manage to take 3 full days off, just doing weights and walking the dogs.  By Saturday, I figured it was worth while “testing the water”.  After getting back from a long walk with the dogs, I hopped on the treadmill for 3 miles.  The knee felt ok. Then it got sore as the day went on.  By bedtime, the pain had subsided.   Sunday morning, no excruciating pain so I set out the door with Shane.  Starting out was a little painful but once I got to the end of the road, the pain [...]

Christmas Cookie Special: Nicotera’s Bakery Cookies

Something new is happening around here. A never been tried before experiment.  It’s not going to be exciting, it’s going to be challenging. What is it?  It’s Time Off From Running for Joanne. It’s being forced upon me by a bad knee.  Something I’ve never had to deal with before.  I’ve had bad hips, hamstrings and feet but never a bum knee and I don’t like it.  I recently read an article about how important time off is.  It helps our body realign itself, inflammation go down, and micro tears heal.  We won’t lose our hard earned fitness in two [...]

The Chocolate Cookie Experiment

According to altiusdirectory.com, “there are three particular days to celebrate Chocolate Day. First Chocolate Day is on July 7th and US National Chocolate Day is on October 28th. The third and the most famous is World Chocolate Day, which is celebrated on September 4th.”  The site also suggests chocolate is good for the heart, blood pressure, the brain, etc. and that’s enough of an excuse for me to play with chocolate in my kitchen. The Chocolate Cookie Experiment While tapering for a marathon, the body has all this extra energy and if you don’t want to use it cleaning the [...]

A Week Before Boston and Arbonne Butter Cookies

April 21st, just a week away. I’ll be back in Boston, Massachusetts walking the streets and visiting the expo with 36,000 other marathon hopefuls.  Some will approach the race with complete confidence others will have nervous jitters questioning their training.  We’ll be a mixed bunch, hoping for personal records, some hoping just to finish.  Where will I be in that mixed marathon emotional heap?  I get nervous jitters, questioning how the past 18 weeks of training will allow me to get from Hopkinton to Boston.  Another big question is how my foot will hold up on the rolling terrain of [...]

Run or Not to Run and Bouchon TKOs

Do what I say not what I do… right?!   Why is it that most of us are just not that good at coaching ourselves?  Could it be that we under estimate our aches and pains? Maybe we think we are invincible: never been injured, never will be.   I’m not sure but I do know that when I have some pain, I ignore it.  Shame on me. Here is my excuse which Ted pretty much nailed the other morning when he said…”When I hurt myself I know it. I can’t run. When you get hurt, it’s never that clear cut.”   [...]
