Bouchon: Nutter Butters

Training has begun.  Training for the 2014 Boston Marathon.  I’m not ready. I have been enjoying the extra sleep, the slow and easy runs for how ever many miles my legs feel like going.  Now miles and minutes will be written down, reviewed, progress noted, and every day counted. Let battle commence! But first, fill up on Nutter Butters! Who doesn’t like those peanut butter cookies shaped like a peanut?  If you love peanut butter, you just adore those cookies.  Now you can make them even better because Bouchon has a recipe on page 36 that is just amazing.  The [...]

Bouchon: Chocolate Chunk Chip Cookies

Don’t you love it when you receive a package, a gift from friend or family for Christmas and it says “Open Immediately!”   No waiting until Christmas eve or Morning, when ever your tradition dictates opening gifts …or…well, whenever Santa drops them off… We received such a package this past week.  It was sent from Harry & David and YES – it WAS fresh fruit. So delicious!  Just look at these pears! I said to Ted “Please don’t take them out of the box until I take a photo”   He was ok with that but couldn’t take his eyes off the [...]

Bouchon Bakery: TLCs

I’m still on my little running vacation.  A welcome time off from the past marathon training.  If it wasn’t for a grumbling hamstring and sore hips, I’d probably still be pushing the miles upward of 35 per week during off season.  Right now, I don’t think I’ve been running 25.  The little hiatus is needed.  It has helped.  I’ve been cross training and doing more stretching, incorporating yoga into a few workout routines.  The later morning wake up alarm is nice. A little more sleep, a little more relaxing, a little more enjoying foods/drinks I’d normally pass up when training.  [...]

Chocolate Fresh Mint Cookies

I’m on a mission to use all that mint in our garden.  We planted flowers and if I allow that mint to grow and grow, we won’t see the flowers.  It’s mint on steroids! I used to love those Girl Scout cookies called Thin Mints so I decided to see what I could do with what ingredients I could find without having to rummage through boxes (our kitchen is not back together yet).  The following recipe is the result. Amazing, especially since I had a slight “hiccup” with my new small oven. Who reads the instructions on new appliances anyway!?! [...]

CNYEats A Taste of Utica Biscotti

This isn’t the first biscotti recipe on my site. You can see Utica style biscotti HERE or you can see a Francois Payard style biscotti HERE (think chocolate) This week, the recipe for biscotti is on page 165 of our book A Taste of Utica and posted by Mella’s Grandson.  I substituted a lot of the flour for brazil nut and oat flour.  The result was not a crisp biscotti but a softer texture with a mild, unique flavor.  It was perfected by topping it off with melted dark and white chocolate. 4 eggs 1 cup butter 1 1/2 cups [...]

CNYEats A Taste of Utica Italian Anisette Cookies

This past summer my niece was married and a cookie tray was prepared using select recipes from out book. One of the most popular cookies was the Anise cookie.  Page 196 of the Taste of Utica book. Delicious! This week, we’re baking a cookie very similar called the Italian Anisette Cookie, page 154  and posted by Toni (Leone) Guzski. “Toni, I tried your anisette cookie they were great.
