Summer Sizzle 2019 Quick Recap

A quick recap of a race I decided to do last minute. I signed up the Saturday before the race at The Sneaker Store.  The weather didn’t look bad, not very hot, slim chance of rain, so why not?  The race venue had been changed back to the original course years ago which went through Proctor Parks, less than 2 miles from my house.  In addition, Coach John had a 5 mile time trial scheduled for my training that weekend. Friday sign up was easy. I went early at 3pm right when sign up began.  It was rather expensive for [...]

Ted Moore 5K Race 2019

Yes, so it’s only a 3.1 mile race AND it’s a small local run to benefit the pledge against drunk driving but it’s a race and because of that, I had to put my 5K race “hat” on.  I don’t like that 5K “hat”. The effort is going to be hard because it’s a shorter distance and the lungs will burn and the legs will feel weak but it has to be done to get comfortable with the uncomfortable. My bib, a tee shirt, a travel cup, bag, and informational pamphlets were the "bling" of the day. The course is [...]

Boston Marathon 2019

I packed for every weather scenario.  My suitcase contained plastic baggies for my feet, throw away sneakers for athletes village, long tights, capris, shorts, tank tops, tee shirts, long sleeve, fleece vest, light vest, light jacket, full-on waterproof/wind proof jacket, gloves, gloves with rubber gloves over the top, hand warmers, Glide, Vaseline, garbage bags, heat sheets from past marathons, blanket, long throw away pants, sweatshirt, and the list goes on.  This year I was prepared or so I thought. We left Utica at 9:45 am and decided to skip getting off at Hopkinton opting instead to exit at 13 for Newton [...]

2018 Running in Review and What’s Up 2019

As this year comes to an end, thinking of training, races, and other exercise related activities play back in my head.  What to do, what not to do, what I want to do and what, realistically, can I do. As much as the time in between marathons is enjoyed, I like having a plan.  Since CIM earlier this month, I’ve been running when, where and what I feel like.  It has been nice and leaves me wondering if I really want to embark on another rigid schedule for Boston in April. I know I will. In 2018, I ran 253 [...]

California International Marathon Recap 2018: #RUNCIM

When travelling from central New York to California in December, you’re going to make a vacation out of your marathon plans. We left Syracuse on Wednesday and arrived in sunny San Francisco at 2pm.  We drove to Carmel-By-The-Sea to visit with Teddy and Xenia for a couple of days before leaving for Sacramento where the CIM events are held.  Although the weather was far from warm, 32 degrees for 4 easy miles Thursday morning, up and down those Carmel hills, it was the scenery that was so refreshing. Those four miles of hills which didn’t feel so bad helped with [...]

Syracuse Half Marathon 2018 Recap

Hey so tomorrow: get focused and let’s be open to having an awesome run – even if you start out sluggish.  The most important part about tomorrow is that you run a strong effort on some tired legs.  The actual pace may very from what’s “prescribed”.  It will be a vary challenging run, but look at what you’re training for – a 26 mile RACE.  So, this needs to be tough.  Stay present! If your mind starts to wander into the future, simply acknowledge and come back to present.  Run the mile you’re in. Now go kick some butt tomorrow!!” [...]
