Anthem Life Total Image Running 10 Mile Race

May 8, 2021.  It was a last minute decision to sign up for a race in Manchester, New Hampshire. Also an opportunity to see my nephew Sam and just an nice overall getaway. Manchester is a clean, seemingly safe spot to visit.  We stayed only two nights but enjoyed the area for walking as well as running.  It’s on the Merrimack River with walkways and trail paths to enjoy which follow the river. We stayed at a TRU by Hilton which was clean, minimal formalities, and extremely convenient to the Anthem race venue, right across the street at Arms Park. [...]

Two Rivers Marathon Festival Weekend: Double Half

I wasn’t ready for a marathon.  Not knowing how different in person (who would have thought we have to specify "in person") racing might be during this COVID-19 pandemic had me put marathon races on hold.  After the REVEL Mt. Charleston NV was cancelled for early April, I decided a half marathon might be just the thing to test out the “new normal” of racing. My running coach John @FixYourRun suggested the Two Rivers Marathon Festival in Lackawaxen, PA. All race distances offered at Two Rivers were along the same course, route 590, a total elevation gain of under 200'. [...]

2020 Virtual Boston Marathon

September 12, 2020 COVID-19 has stopped most in person races.  The 124th Boston Marathon was postponed to September 2020 from April then finally turned into a virtual running event. The BAA went all out in an attempt to make this as good an experience as possible given the circumstances.  The rules were simple.  Run a 26.2 mile course of your own choosing between September 5th through the 14th and upload your time to the special 124th Boston Marathon phone app.  You had to have qualified for the 2020 Boston Marathon in order to enter this event even though it was [...]

It is official Boston 2020 CANCELLED

The COVID-19 pandemic has forced the Boston Marathon to be cancelled. Years of collecting It's been difficult staying motivated to train for any length run since no race is happening.  Sure, there are the virtual races but being that I don't enjoy racing to begin with, there's no reason to sign up for a race and run by myself.  I mean... why?!  I still engage the help of a trainer in hopes to better my performance at different distances once REAL racing begins again.  This holds me accountable.  Typically, I'm running 6 days a week with 2 harder [...]

Boston Marathon Postponed

How do I feel about this? Boston postponed until September 14th, 2020. I signed up to run JackNJill Downhill marathon in Boise Idaho on September 13th. Obviously Boston takes priority so I am hoping to defer JNJ until 2021 but I'm smack dap in the middle of my 10 year habit to run Boston in April.  Holy cow! What an upset to my routine.  Training has been revised from marathon specific to maintenance phase running. My goal since 2011, my first Boston Marathon, was to qualify every year and run 10 consecutive Boston Marathons.  I have run 9 and seen [...]

Snickers Marathon 2020 Albany GA

Marathon number 33 and 18th state. Every marathon seems like the first with the restless night, the nervousness, the desire for this run to be the best. Maybe that’s good?  This marathon was part of my training for Boston next month and I ran 13 miles on Tuesday followed by 8 miles Wednesday then a series of 4 milers cut down Thurs and Fri leading into race day Saturday.  I was hoping, knowing that my legs would not be fresh, that I could relax and simply enjoy every experience of race day.  It didn't happen, not until that finish line [...]
