The Niggles and FOFF Salsa-Licious Quiche

Sometimes I’ll be driving along or out for some exercise and something will happen or pop into my mind that makes me go “Tssk!”  You know that sound when you put your tongue to the roof of your mouth and pull it back quick.  That’s the sound of a “niggle”, a frustration, an annoyance.  On any given day, things that get under my skin might change.  I do make a very conscious effort to be more patient and talk myself out of over reacting BUT, the feeling is there just the same.  Here’s some of those niggles that I’m talking [...]

FOFF Cheese Irish Mix Up

Snow is coming our way again.  Not only is it difficult running when there’s a lot of snow in the road but cars don’t like to drive in it either.  You know how the wheels of vehicles will make two clear lanes on a snow covered road?   As a runner who avoids the snow, I like to run in those clear lanes when there are no cars approaching.   But you know what’s funny?  Cars like to drive in those clear paths as well.  There have been times when a driver would rather take me out than drive to the far [...]

It’s Time and FOFF Chicken or Tempe Pad Se Eew

It’s time.  Time for The Disney Marathon Weekend.  We're excited to head South and get into some really warm weather. We don’t care about being acclimated because our events are all about having fun. If we need to walk, we walk.  If we need to stop and take a photo with some characters we’ll stop for a photo.   It will be fun seeing Disney after being away for so long.  As for our training, Ted took his plan off of the RunDisney site for half marathon beginners. It worked out great for him.  We’re both 100% sure he’ll have a [...]

FOFF Spicy Buffalo Shredded Game Day Chicken

It’s cold, cold, cold here in New York.  At –3 degrees F this morning and not conducive to good running, it’s TREADMILL TIME!  Can we get excited?!    6 1/2 miles today with Zoey crying above my head.  When she came down into the gym, I put her on the treadmill and she eventually relaxed to enjoy a 4 minute walk. Cold weather means hot crock pot meals Carla Vavalo, author and chef of Fusion of Food and Friends offers this recipe, perfect for those game day gatherings or simply a real tasty casual meal. Really easy.  It’s all done [...]

FOFF No Wok Needed Slow Cook Cashew Chicken

This week Carla Vavala offers another slow cooker recipe that is easier to follow than baking refrigerator cookies. From the book Fusion of Food and Friends.  This is a recipe that tastes even better as left overs.  Beware of adding the nuts and make sure to use UNSALTED since the fish and oyster sauces plus the broth (it might be a good idea to use reduced salt broth) give this dish enough salty flavor.  *Vegetarian lentil version offered below and is more flavorful than the chicken…just saying. 1 1/2 lbs. chicken breasts – cubed 6 cloves garlic (Ted said it [...]

FOFF Y-Cinta Chicken and Squash Curry

First, I have to brag that I am getting my monthly massage this weekend.  YAY! I SOOO look forward to those invigorating (sometimes painful) deep tissue massage sessions that work out all the kinks I’ve put into my tissues and muscles.  If you live in the area, check out my latest Examiner article on the best place in town to get a massage. They even won an award! There is also a recipe for a healthy, antioxidant, hydrating Pear Ginger Water. The Chicken sCOOP of the week: Not quite the curry flavor I’m used to. Carla Vavala uses Red curry [...]
