Finally! I managed to put the big fat “2” in front of my running miles: 20.75 miles Thursday morning. Those miles were not without war wounds…
I lost my focus at mile 16 1/2, tripped and down I went. I actually hit my nose?! I don’t have a big nose so it’s a mystery as to why it got in the way? After the fall, I was feeling a bit sorry for myself and my breathing was all out of whack. Talked myself into refocusing, especially since nothing hurt so bad that I couldn’t continue. I poured some water on my throbbing palms. That was all they needed. Those bad looking knees didn’t bother me one bit.
Running fuel: 1 banana with 1 TBS PB 1 1/2 hours before the run. At mile 7, I took a 5 hour energy drink. At mile 11 1/2, I had 1/2 a pack of Sports Beans. At mile 14 1/2, I took a GU with 2X caffeine. I still need to work on fueling my body for the long run.
Within 2 hours of getting home from the run, I ate, packed and hit the road. Ted and I are currently in Portland, Maine. Mum, Dad, Mocha, and Shane will protect the house…along with the alarm system of course.
Ted and I will be sailing, running, and going on a beer tour. We are staying in Old Portland at a B&B called Percy Inn.
The Beach2Beacon Expo:
We scored some great samples such as Cabot cheese samples, Everlast Women’s and Men’s Multi vitamins (90 tab packs), Lucy’s Gluten Free Cinnamon Thins cookies, BIG Pack Orange Tic-Tacs, Clif Bars, Chewy Granola bars in oatmeal cookie, s’mores, and chocolate chip cookie flavors. We also picked up an Everlast bar with Antioxidants. 2 bananas, 2 oranges, and 2 green apples completed our stash. I listened to a presentation about a new energy mix called UCAN. I’m hoping to get some samples. Interesting!
From the Expo, we took a ride to the finish line at Fort Williams
Now we have to figure out how Ted is going to get to the finish to meet me????
It was a long day of driving and we were ready for a refreshing glass of wine and good food.
A wonderful Italian Barbera for Ted and Blondeau French Sauvignon Blanc for me.
The menu, although limited, represented some interesting Spanish Tapas foods
The bread was soft and warm, a bit on the oily side but irresistible served with sun dried tomatoes
As customary with Tapas, we shared:
tortilla del dia: a frittata type appetizer. BETTER THAN ANYTHING I’VE EVER MADE!
Look at the layers.. the sweet potatoes were the prominent flavor in this dish.
We both had the green salad with goat cheese…
The seafood paella was shared. It was a HUGE dish with lobster claw, clams, mussels, white fish, and shrimp. I felt it could have used a bit more spice but, giving it the credit its due, the saffron was the prominent flavor.
Oh yeah… and tuna sashimi…
We ordered coffee and look what they brought…
A CAROUSEL MUG!!! I collect carousels which is exactly what I told the bartender when I fessed up that I intended to steal the mug and asked if it really counted as stealing since I just revealed my intentions. He said “No that doesn’t count but we have SO MANY mugs, I’ll give you that one for $2.50.” SCORE!… okay.. so paying $2.50 isn’t really being GIVEN the mug..but I was happy.
I drank the somewhat weak coffee, wiped my new collectable clean and stuck it in my purse…. while the bartender watched of course.
What a fun day! The race is going to be HUGE and confusing but we’ll get through it.
Tomorrow, Ted and I set sail on a 25’ O’DAY. Fingers crossed for a little bit of wind and sunny, yet not too hot weather.
What are you weekend highlights?
OMG, that frittata looks AMAZING. I seriously need one of those in my life. 🙂
You’re too cute with that carousel mug – that’s totally something I would do!
Owwww!!! Hope your knees are okay now!
BTW – did you know that one of your posts is on the healthbuzz homepage?
Oh no! Hope you packed the antibiotics! I’ve always got busted and bruised knees. But those look really tender. Poor thing! You should be so proud of tackling the miles even after the war wound.
The carousel mug is funny. I once lifted a mug about Southern writers from a “co-op” house I was living in during an internship. I contributed another mug in its place but still felt like stealing. And that’s such a cute carousel mug.
Have fun sailing and on the beer tour!
Ouch on those knees! How you keep going is amazing. That dish with the layers looks fabulous. Wish I had that for lunch today. As for the Shrimp da frivalo, some others said it wasn’t spicey enough, but mine had a powerful kick since I used that cayenne instead of the pepper flakes!! I couldn’t take it more spicey than it was. I thought it was very good. Enjoy your weekend dear friend!! And take care of those knees.
Dang you’re a running machine! I’m still doing my 30 minutes in the morning but since I just started back up I’m taking it slow and not even clocking the mileage yet.
That frittata….Oh My Gosh!!!
Hi Joanne,
So Proud of You – – Even after a nasty spill you collected yourself and finished! You truly are amazing. Take care of those boo-boos, have a great time on the water (wishing you sun and wind!) and most of all enjoy your time together.
p.s. I don’t know how the bartender didn’t just give you that carousel mug ?!
p.s.s. We’ll be around this weekend – – please let your Mum & Dad know should call if they need anything!
