Wine Tasting

Wineries, Picnics, and Wacky Mac Salad

Last week, my cousin arrived from the England.  We were the first stop of many in the three month trip around the world.  Steve, my cousin, and his friend Tracy, will be seeing sites in California, New Zealand, Australia, Singapore, India, Malaysia… and there may be some other places in between.  We had such a fantastic time with them, it’s tough to see them go.  Friday, the first day they were in Utica, we let them recover from the long flight from the UK to the US.  We celebrated their visit with a family BBQ at Sue and Sam’s house [...]

Whine for Wine

Amazing how quickly Saturday’s fly by.  I was running, blogging, bathing, eating, shopping then all of a sudden it’s the middle of the afternoon and Ted is saying “Let’s go”.  We made a stop at the bike store and picked up some different mirrors for our bikes.  The ones on our helmets don’t work for either one of us.  Maybe we’ll get used to them but right now, we don’t like them. We stopped at the mall to see if we could get new batteries for our phones.  Ted is wearing them out with all the conference calls for work.  [...]

Rain and weekends

Gifts from loved ones My husband loves me.  Not only did he come with me on my first half marathon last weekend, but he gave me a charm to congratulate me for my efforts: I have it on my gold necklace which also has: a winged foot, a 5K charm, and a horseshoe. I have a silver runners necklace, gift from my sister when I first started running years ago, which has a female runner figure and a sneaker.  I’ll put my MARATHON charm on that one. When, where, how has yet to be determined. Rain It’s inevitable.  The weekend [...]

A Wine Experience

We received a shipment of wine from Geerlings & Wade. Torrontes. A Dessert wine.   A 2007 Cielo, Famatina Valley Torrontes, Argentina. The aroma is described as floral with hints of citric fruit.  The flavor is more of a tropical fruit flavor.  It was winner of the 2008 World Wine Championships.  For Ted and myself,  the taste was tropical fruits that teased the tongue but didn’t linger.  It was far from the familiar tastes of the California whites with their sweet fruitiness.  Cielo was a complex wine.  It was enjoyable but not one of my favorites.  Ted appreciated this wine more [...]

Third Cake Down, Two to Go

Happy Birthday, Ann! Ann's birthday cake is a vanilla, two layer cake with chocolate mousse filling and buttercream frosting.  It took me THREE attempts to get the "ANN" right on this cake.  1.  It came out looking like "AMM". 2.  It was too far to the left. On the third attempt, I settled for my "Ann".  See how it's bigger than the "Happy Birthday"?  I think it was a frustrated ...ANN!!!!! After the delivery, which was easy because both cakes today, Linda and Cindy, and Ann's, went to Symeons for their birthday celebrations, I embarked on a much more difficult [...]
