TCS NYC Marathon 2018 Recap

Well the second time is certainly not a charm.  After 2014, I vowed there wouldn’t be a second time. Giving myself a “way out”, this was supposed to be a training run, no pressure just a long run before the key marathon of the fall, the California International Marathon on December 2nd.  I still had a goal of just under 4 hours to eke in a BQ.  Coach wanted me to maintain between a 9:45 and 9:15 pace.  I thought I could do better and not feel tired. That didn’t happen. Weekend leading into the marathon: We set out for [...]

School of Fish and After the NYC Marathon 2014

It wasn’t long once we were back in the hotel room after running the TCSNYCMarathon that I received a message from my nephew.  He and his girl friend were in the City and waiting to meet us.  Now trying to clean up quickly and refresh, getting ready to go out “on the town” walking mind you, after traversing 26.2 miles on hard pavement is somewhat of a task. We did it anyway since I love my nephew, Sam.  His girlfriend Megan is pretty darned special as well. We met at Hudson Place Restaurant.  Sam, Megan and Ted enjoyed fresh blue [...]

TCS NYC Marathon 2014

In an article from RunBlogRun published online just after Kara Goucher’s NYC marathon performance, it stated that Kara had  planned on a 2:28 marathon and held steady until the 30K point.  Wind, cold, the faster pace got to her. She hit the wall for the first time in her career.  Hal Higdon’s comment about embracing a personal worst as you would a personal best is easier to read but not so easy to embrace, as copied from the article.  Kara finished the November 2nd TCS NYC Marathon in 2:37. The elite athletes motivate me.  They get nervous before a race [...]

Too Much Research and Pumpkin Soup

Do you ever think that we might find more information than is needed when searching the internet?  I do especially when the information deflates confidence.  Here’s what happened. The TCS NYC Marathon is fast approaching. I’ve just begun my tapering and had the time and energy to scope the internet for answers to this question:  “Is the NYC Marathon course harder than the Boston Marathon course?”   I looked at 3 sites and 100% said a BIG, NASTY … YES There were also a few “Not a course to PR”.  There were more “Take it all in. Bring your phone and [...]

Easy Does It on a Weeknight- That Incredible Edible Egg

I thought this week should be taper week but it doesn’t seem like taper week. I’m tired, I’m cranky, I’m absolutely desperate to sleep in.  But no, not until November 3rd, the day after the New York City Marathon or rather the TCSNYC Marathon.  When I run with Zoey in the morning, I’ve been getting so frustrated with her constant pulling. It makes my runs miserable because I feel rotten having to pull on her so much. Tomorrow, she wears her back pack. It’s the only way she will slow down.  As for Shane, he’s my easy pacer.  He has [...]
