Rooted in Bed and Root Vegetable Tarte Tatin

The weather wasn’t quite as nice as it has been the past few mornings, We had rain over night with more wind this morning.  When I got up, earlier than usual to go for a longer run before work, my mood sank as low as it could go and I was looking for excuses.  Even though yesterday was a rest day, my mind justified a “two-fer” so I climbed back into bed and “rooted” myself and my miserable mood until the last possible moment before getting ready for work.  Not a walk. No time in the gym.  Just a 100% [...]

Recovering in S.C and A Taste of Utica Italian Bread, Round 2

A mini vacay visiting Mum and Dad in Pawley's Island, S.C.  It’s always beautiful here, even when it rains, which it’s NOT doing (more than I can say about Utica, NY!).  We had a wonderful dinner at Bistro 217 Friday night while Ted was walking the dogs in Utica. I know this because he called me to complain. I miss you guys! My Saturday morning mid range run was met with mixed feelings. Half of me was looking forward to see how my legs have recovered since the marathon last weekend and half of me just wanted to stay in [...]

CNYEats A Taste of Utica Tabouli

Quick Announcement!  I made "FEATURED BLOGGER" on Trufflehead. Check it out! Tabouli? or LEGS?  Let’s start with my legs.  They’re recovering from the marathon. To be honest, if it wasn’t for my calf, I wouldn’t feel the need for recovery. I feel good…FELT good after the run. It was my head that hit the bad spot. You train daily with a goal in mind, to run the Philadelphia Marathon (or what ever event), the day comes and goes, and BAM! You feel good so what do you do now? That’s the let down. You flounder. You WANT to rest but [...]

Run Recovery and CEimB Stir Fried Bok Choy with Tofu or Pork

A week or two before running the Boilermaker, I was getting tired.  Call that BURNOUT.  There were few days that I was enthusiastic about getting out of bed for a run.   I made myself a promise that after the Boilermaker I would take a three day break from running.   Two of those days I was successful.  By the third day, my head wanted to run, my legs wanted to go back to bed. Monday after the race, I got up to work with weights and rode the bike with Ted for 10 miles in 35 minutes.  That was a good [...]

Recovery is Boring and Cornbread Italian Cheese Muffins

This recovery thing is killing me.  I’m not feeling that I need to recover. Pundits warn against those very feelings, advising on the resistance of all urges to get back out there and run to early.  Shane isn’t helping since he’s still on 4 AM work out mode.  Good thing it’s been wet and raining, the type of weather you dread when you HAVE to get those miles in.  In spite of the cold temperatures and wet weather, my legs are screaming to break into run mode when walking with Shane.  To channel that excess energy, I get up early, [...]
