An AMAZING package was delivered by UPS.  Mysterious looking isn’t it?  Open it up and it’s from BOB!  Bob’s Red Mill.  Grains of DISCOVERY. I love cooking with grains.  I especially enjoy experimenting with recipes using Gluten Free grains but since wheat gluten doesn’t seem to bother Ted or myself, I’ll try all healthy, nutrient dense grains.  The sample pack received included: *Information from “Bob’s Red Mill Grains of Discovery” booklet accompanying this sample package. Lean, Smart, Healthy and Sweet Potato Quinoa

“Many of life’s failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up”.   -Steve Prefontaine" Based on the book “Mastering the Marathon”.  Leaner is faster, lets just face it.  But perspective is needed. We perform our best at our leanest, healthiest body weight which is only achieved through effective training and proper nutrition. VO2 max, the ability to process oxygen and convert it to energy, is improved by weight loss. Simply a power to weight ratio.  This is harder to maintain as we get older but it doesn’t mean we have to put [...]

I Heart Keenwah: The Mother Grain

After a week of what Ted and I now believe to be Salmonella poisoning, we are getting back to normal. Although the thought of eating eggs still makes my tummy turn and I can’t eat salads, I am taking in a lot of good nutrition by lentil soup, gluten free whole grain toast, and snacking on iheartkeenwah (more on that below).   I even stepped out for a chilling but effective 5 mile run this morning.  That’s the thing about having dogs, they need exercise and force you to get out there and JUST DO IT.  So we did it.  Shane [...]

Energy Boosts & Quinoa Tropical Fruit Salad

More than you needed to know? Ok …getting on with it. Mistake: Insufficient calories to meet your energy burn. Correct: If you train one hour per day, add 16 to 20 more calories per pound of body [...]

Lentil Quinoa Health Salad

Work it!  Running quote of the day:   By Amby Burfoot, Runner’s World Editor at Large Slow-but-sure has always worked for me, in running and in most other arenas.  I wouldn’t mind being a Carl Lewis or Usain Bolt, but I’ve found little payoff in attempting to be what I’m not.” Today’s tempo training. I enjoy tempo runs.  It’s a pace that pushes but doesn’t exhaust.  2 mile warm up on the mill. 4 x 1 mile at tempo (7.59 pace) cool down 10 minutes and then a workout with weights doing chest and arms. Shane and I ran for 2.42 [...]

CEimB Salmon Florentine and Quinoa Pilaf

Those of us CEimB die-hards are still cooking.  We love the healthy and easy recipes of Ellie Krieger and even though the site is not being kept up to date, we are teaming together to cook some great food. This week Kathryn of Grandma’s Kitchen Table has chosen the recipes.  Check her site for a complete review and also for next weeks recipe.  Salmon Florentine – click for recipe The result was a very good piece of salmon with a good topping.  It could have used a bit more flavor.  Both Ted and I agreed that we would have preferred [...]
