Philadelphia Marathon

Philadelphia Marathon 2011 Recap

You can do all the right training. You can log the miles, do multiple 20 milers, stick to the pace charts and the final day arrives. It could be your day or it might not. Sunday, November 20, 2011 in Philadelphia was not quite my day. I lost the desire to run. There was no “wall” that I hit, no “bonking”, my mind was not one of a happy runner. Guess it can be compared to my view on baking: If you bake with a smile and enjoy it, everything will turn out perfect.  If you bake with a bad [...]

Worry Zone and Warm Eggplant Black Bean Salad

First of all, I want to know why I get SO MUCH JUNK email on my CA Raisin Bread post! It's so frustrating!  Do you get more crap on one post than any others?  Second, Ted had a race tonight in swim class. He said he beat those little kids.  I said "REALLY? How old were they?"  His response:   "It was open [snicker, snicker, tee-hee-hee].  But the good news is that I won my age group."    So that's what it's come to?  ;) Now for my "Woe is me" rant... Back and forth from one web site to the next. [...]

You Know You’re Getting Faster When and Snapea Crisps

After taking it easy last week, a total of 17 miles and some change, ducking out of my long run by running a 5K and getting a new PR (well that move paid off!), I made a strong come back on Monday, ready to tackle the Philadelphia training.  Not that it was easy getting up but once I was out of bed, my mind didn’t search for excuses to get back into bed. It was early and Shane was a little stiff from too much Frisbee play over the weekend.  It was treadmill torture for at least 55 minutes. Treadmill:  [...]

Complete meal in 45 minutes

You would think after a full day off from long walks, running, weights, and cycling I’d be ready for some serious working out.  It wasn’t so.  We had a terrific time in Niagara Falls and got home Monday afternoon.  Not sure if you’re vacations end this way, but when you arrive home do you take off at warp speed unpacking, vacuuming, grocery shopping and working twice as hard at settling back into routine?  It’s crazy!  Almost not worth going away. After the whirl-wind arrival home and putting a quick meal on the table for Ted, my parents and myself, I [...]

Coconut M&M Haystack Cookies

We’re heading into the weekend.  It’s been a long, hot week.  Good things happened and some bad.  A lot was accomplished then there were things put on hold.  What happened in your week? Running News:  It was a fun week.  When a marathon is scheduled in the late Fall, the summer training takes on a casual air.  Run when you want, how long you want, and simply enjoy the fact that you can run.  I’m heading into Philadelphia training but still have time to be nonchalant about it.  I’ve tried to keep up some distance runs since Boston, my longest [...]

Can’t Stop Having a Plan and How Fast They Grow

Even though my next marathon is MONTHS away, I had to have a plan.  Here it is:  Philadelphia Training Plan.  Yes, I’ve already begun but that’s only because I have a few races planned over the summer and wanted to get some kind of idea of how to prepare.  The plan is flexible and I’ve already changed it due to Ted’s upcoming events. This past weekend was a fun test of fitness and recovery.  I decided to run however many miles I felt like on Saturday with Shane. It was hot and, to be honest, I ran too far with [...]
