All In Chocolate Almond Chip Cookies

I should have called this post “Joanne’s Kitchen Experiment” but then again, any time I begin perusing my cupboard shelves without a recipe in hand, anything that comes out of the oven is an experiment. Thankfully, the result was another success. Today I got busy with butter, oats, chocolate covered almonds, chocolate chips and cacao nibs. Ingredients:  Makes 2 dozen 1/2 cup + 3 TBS unsalted butter, softened 1 1/2 cups sugar 2 tsp vanilla 2/3 cups skim milk 21/2 cups flour 1 1/4 cups oats 1 tsp baking powder 1 tsp baking soda 1/2 cups chopped chocolate coated almonds [...]

Eating Equals Energy and Oatmeal Cookies for Breakfast

When I first decided to run longer distances, 10 miles or more back in 2009, the thought of eating something before these early morning runs never occurred to me. After all, I had been going to the gym for years and running 5 miles a couple of hours before having any kind of food. I remember my first attempt at 12 miles on a stomach full of NOTHING.  An epic failure.  I was very careful working myself up to running that distance without getting injured although paid no attention to an equally important aspect of endurance which is nutrition.  Now, [...]

Bouchon: Oatmeal Raisin Cookies

Maybe the Oatmeal Raisin Cookie isn’t special enough for a holiday cookie but it IS popular enough.  Almost everyone enjoys a good oatmeal cookie.  This one from Bouchon Bakery’s special recipes is one of the best. See this post on Bloglovin: Follow my blog with Bloglovin Crisp on the outside, chewy in the middle. Isn’t this the perfect oatmeal raisin cookie?! Slight variations were made in the recipe below to the one found in the book. *The book suggests baking by weight as I typically do in my kitchen but I know most home cooks use measuring cups and spoons. [...]

Oatmeal Peanut Butter Cookies with Real Fruit Chews

This could be the end to my blogging for a while She’s a pistol!  When this 9 week old puppy gets bursts of energy, look out!  I’ve been lucky since it’s a long weekend and every time she starts feeling her oats, I let her and Shane out side to run it off.  Unfortunately for the newly planted flowers, she finds things to amuse herself. Shane tolerates her outside and will play with her inside the house. He’ll put her whole head in his mouth when they play. He’s very careful not to step on her or put his entire [...]

Bitten by the bug and Oatmeal Banana Cookies

I’ve been a lax-blogger.  Didn’t have the energy which is very out of sorts for this “energizer bunny”.  Both my sister and I were bitten by the bug in Myrtle Beach and I’m still struggling with it. Nauseous, deep chest cough, the occasional sneeze, I’m not used to being sick.  In fact, I can’t even remember the last time I was this ill. We’re talking years.  It’s not fun. What happens to the training schedule when your sick?  I guess it should go on hold but try telling that to the Boston Marathon obsessed.  I’ve made some really questionable choices [...]

Runners High Not Found and Orange Ginger Oatmeal Cookies

Happy Valentines Day!  Hope your Valentine does something to make your day super special! There were no excuses.  The weather was just fine for a good long run this past weekend.  Yes, those body parts I complain about often were sore but with constant stretching, the soreness was manageable.  At 4:30 am Saturday, I woke up. It’s peaceful with scant traffic at that time on the weekend and, even though it is very early, I look forward to being out there in the darkness with street lights guiding my way.  The quiet calmness of the neighborhoods with only my breathing [...]
