23 Glorious Miles and Millet Salad

Today was my last long run before the marathon.  For confidence sake, I had to do 23 miles. It started out as a really bad run, got heaps better, went a bit down hill, then ended on a good note. I wore the top and skort that is the outfit for my marathon. I wore the pace band around my lower arm to protect against the chafe that the phone sleeve gives me.  I wore my Newtons and my Injinji socks.  I had the running fuel which I planned to use for the marathon. Banana, Gu Shot, Clif Shot, Sports [...]

Running, Wrinkles, The Willows, and Rum Based Glaze

Long run today.  20.08 total miles.  This was a meaningful run because average pace was under 9 minutes, 8.58 to be exact.  Best yet for the long run. I ran with Jenn and had a great run.  She enjoys torturous runs. We went up Henderson Street, a mile long incline.  UGG!  Today’s run began with a 1.8 mile run with Shane. Can’t leave the dog out of the loop.  Then I trucked on down the Parkway for 5 miles.  Jenn and I ran about 5 miles until we split up and I continued on home.  The long way home, did [...]

The Second “Half”

My second half marathon.  Training is 90% physical and 10% mental UNTIL race day. That’s what ACTIVE’s  Jenny Hadfield has to say.  Makes sense to me.  So all the training is done and now it’s a mind over body thing.  This is the course that my mind ran today: It was an out and back course. I was thinking that would be boring but anytime I run outside and it’s a new route, I don’t find it boring. I was up at 5 am.  The half was to start at 8 am.  I ate a banana with 1 TBS peanut [...]

Big footed family

I think our family has big feet. My Uncle is visiting my parents in South Carolina this week. He is over from England and my mother said they were going out today to get him some new shoes.  He wears a size 14.  That’s right. SIZE 14 !!!!  The following comparison resulted in my conclusion that I have big feet:  Both Ted’s daughters are taller than I am at 5’8” and 5’10’.  Respective shoe sizes are about 8 1/2 and 10.  I am 5’6”.  I wear a 9 or 9 1/2 .  My feet hadn’t used to be that big. [...]

Wild Caught Cod Fiesta

I get some thought inducing emails from My Inner World.  It’s a really fun place to visit on the web if you need to just sit back, catch your breath and have a bit of fun.  On March 2nd, this message showed up: “Every Moment Counts”.  It is easy to forget that our greatest point of power is in the present moment.  When life feels overwhelming and it seems like we can never catch up, it is imperative that we bring ourselves back to the here and now. … …Every single moment gives us an opportunity to make a choice.  [...]

A Box Of Oatmeal Cookies

Happy St.Patrick’s Day! Cross Training means you do something different from the event you are training for.  At least that’s what it means to me.  Since I am training to run longer races, my cross training days are spent doing anything BUT running, however may involve the occasional jog here and there.   Tuesday was a 55 minute cross training day which involved the following mix: 15 minutes of rowing. – not my favorite. 40 minutes of Elliptical. – I like E.T.-ing 25 minutes leg workout using machines. – UGG! 48 minute walk with the Shane Man, resulting in 3.12 miles. [...]
